Very cool car. One correction though, those SOHC 427 engines were 650 hp right out of the crate. Maybe his was detuned for street driving, but I doubt it's only 425 hp. Impressive anyway, and at least he's not one of those guys treating it like it's real.

We had a Cobra kit car here the other day to be looked over for the prospective buyer. The salesman from the selling dealer told us it once belonged to Reggie Jackson. The car wasn't very nice, and was a stock 302 4bbl, C-4. I had to laugh. Reggie wouldn't own a kit like that, and if he did, it wouldn't be a 302 automatic. I'm sure he could afford a real one!

Perhaps he means enough power to get airborne over the hills? :D Kit Cobras are pretty fun for what they are, a cheap way to throw together something with a V8, very little weight, and bodywork that actually looks good instead of like a fake Ferrari.

I've sat in that car and seen it a lot and never knew it was not real. Not that I'm a Cobra expert. But it sounds really wicked in person.

I never really wanted a Cobra replica until driving a Factory Five spec racer recently. Those things are great fun and could be a NASTY Drag Week entry. Bill...?

Just finished an EFI tune on a really nice Cobra replica. I am not sure whose "kit" it is, but it's got the best of everything, at least as I understand it: 4-link, huge brakes, the motor is a 565" BBF that was built for around 650-700hp at the crank, we detuned it a bit with conservative timing and it put just under 500 to the wheels on a Mustang dyno (that'd be ~600whp on a Dynojet). It's got someone's burly 5-speed, but also has LS1 coilpacks (no distributor) so it fits without too much sticking out of the hood.

            The thing is stupid fast.

A TT SOHC Cobra would be sweet.

I seriously considered a Factory Five cobra, got the video, literature, price list.
But two seats and no roof just doesn't work for me at this time and in my environment. Defanitely a nice package.

Having wheeled their type 65 coupe.....it's awesome and it has a roof and it's stop traffic sexy.

You'll be seeing Factory 5 here on CJTV in a short while as we going to be filming a factory tour (and hopefully spending a little seat time in a couple of their models.

Here's my fat ass in the Type 65...it even makes me look cooler (ok maybe not). I think White Monster or JRoberts zapped this photo at Maxton.

                              Re: Jay Leno's Cobra

Coolest kit Cobra replica I've ever been in belonged to another instructor at a Watkins Glen Shelby club event I was helping out at in the mid-90s. Had an aluminium 500 cube Dove FE motor with a Holley Pro-Jection on top, a Richmond 5-speed, decent brakes and BFG R-compound tires. I said to him, "you have to take me for a ride in this car!!" Turns out he had a proper race bucket and harnesses on his side, but an original style low-back shell bucket with a lap belt only on the passenger side. Not much to grab on to inside one of those cars either ... it was quite the ride, we were getting around 140 mph in to the braking zone for the "bus stop" chicane on the back straight, and the car just gobbled up the short straights.

                              cheers
