  • Barrett Jackson Vegas

I caught a little of the auction last night from Vegas. I love the cars and the announcers, but I can not stand the level to which Craig Jackson almost scolds the bidders if a car goes for low money. Man talk about a killjoy, It is an auction! The car is worth the amount bid.
I wish I could tune him out and just listen to the broadcast. I do find it interesting the info given especially on the one off items. The Snake and Mongoose cars and transporters from the early 70's are going up at the January Scottsdale meet, so I guess I will have to tune in one more time.

He does that a lot. Looks like a schmuck every time he touches the mic. Problem is that his team has made promises that a car will sell for a minimum price. When it doesn't, they have a pissed off owner all over their shit. I think they have forgone their seller's fee and/or wrote a check to more than a couple car owners to save face.

They used to have required No Reserve sales and had way too many sellers pissed at them. They begrudgingly allow it now, but do everything they can to try to convince sellers not to do so.

When I watch sports on TV, inevitably the announcers are biased. That's why the remote has a mute button on it. The graphics will keep you up to speed on what's happening......

I like when the guy comes out of the shadows when the bidding stalls and say shit like. "come on folks, what you see here is the ONLY pea green 74 Chevy nova with a gold paisley interior, the only one! It has a 250 I6 power and a 2spd powerglide folks, you just cant find these for that price. Look at the white walls, the pep boy hub caps! then he will vanish into the shadows

like the bidders are stupid or that his astute observations will somehow drive the price up...I rarely see bidding take off when he does his little commentary on the mic.

The strangest part of the Vegas auction was when the had Sigfried and Roy on stage with no car to auction for their charity and they asked bidders to donate $10,000 each. What is that? It made no sense as Ford had just donated a brand new Cobra Jet Mustang, a bunch of swag and behind the scenes tour of their shop for the MS society. Sigfried and Roy and Wayne Newton owned Vegas at one time. Can't you bring a signed poster and dinner gift certificate at least.
I am not a Mustang guy, but I was all in for that car!

How bout some tix to Cirque du Soleil and a suite at a casino for the weekend for bidding? I am betting it was very, very last minute; or the car they intended to auction off was a no-go.
