  • What do you do for a living?

I mentioned this on another thread so I thought I would start it.

I work on a racecar. We run it in HSR(Historic Racing Series). The car is a Riley & Scott chassis with a 5liter V10 Judd.

The owners son had been racing 1/4 midgets, but he out grew them. We're to get him into a legend car next.

He also owns a hunting ranch in Texas, the 74 Ranch Resort. Check out the web site www.74ranch.com

So what does everyone else do?

I hit shows, meets and races as a participant and document it on High Definition. It's called Moddin' Art. My family helps me with it. My wife and I enter our cars together much of the time. I hope to sell it as a national series soon.

I'm a Geologist and to make me sound smarter than I am I present the Wikipedia!

      According to the Wikipedia:

Their graduate training typically includes significant coursework in physics, mathematics, chemistry and possibly biology, in addition to classes offered through the geology department; historical and physical geology, igneous and metamorphic petrology and petrography, hydrogeology, sedimentology, mineralogy, palaeontology, and structural geology are among the many required areas of study. Most geologists also need skills in GIS and other mapping techniques. Geology students may spend portion of summers living and working under field conditions with faculty members. Geology courses are also highly valuable to students of geography, engineering, chemistry, urban planning, environmental studies, and other fields.

I'm a Mine Production Geologist to be exact, most call us Rock Lickers :P

I remember when George Robinson ran in the Trans-Am series, I was building engines for Les Lindley at the time. Glad to see he's still at it. Many people don't realize that most pro racing outside of NASCAR or NHRA is really run by true enthusiasts. They spend much of there own money to race. I seem to recall we would spend $10,000 a weekend to get the car to the track, buy tires, pay for food, rooms & salaries just to have the chance to win $8,000, that's if you won the race. The purse went down quite a bit from there.

Today I have my own engine building shop in So. Cal. Standard stuff, bore, hone, deck, flowbench, dyno, everything to build or test high end performance engines.

Mostly I am a chauffeur here in LA. The company I work for has about 50% corporate and 50% entertainment accounts. Yes, I drive celebrities. Driven several that you see on the magazine covers. I've been doing it too long and am looking to get out.

On my off days of driving; I have been taking repair and mechanical restoration jobs on my friends classic cars. Since one of my buddies has eight classics; he keeps me quite busy.

I also work as an actor every now and again when I get off my butt and hustle. Starting writing in earnest the last couple of years as well.

I've worked for George on and off since 1990. Did you go to the races with Les? I don't remember your name, but that was a long time ago. I think if I dig around a bit, I might have a Les Lindley t-shirt.

I split going to the track with Gary Wilson (whose my current partner on a Bonneville car) so yes I was at the track but never took many pictures.
Here's one from Suzuka Japan in '93. I'm on the left. We won this 1000 km race. That's Bob Soby in the back with his wife.

I am a retired school teacher (31 years). I had been substituting at the school I was teaching at when I retired, but because of chemo treatments every 21 days lately, I have backed off of that for now. Substituting allows some extra income while being able to say, "Nope I'm can't make it today." Not a bad deal.

                              Let's see....last week I made $40 rebuilding a carb for a guy.

Mostly I send my wife off to work in the morning, she's so much better at making money than I am.
