  • CR500af

As many know, I have a CR500. I've been jonesing to do a conversion where the motor is put in a CRF250 frame. There's a company in California that will do it for you - but where's the fun in that? The frame is on its way as is the conversion bits....

anyone have any experience with this one? I've ridden a CR500af and LOVED it, torque for days and light/shorter wheelbase makes it a tree - trail machine....

a friend of mine wants to go riding, but I don't like the 500 as it's just too heavy; but I also am unwilling to spend 2000 on a CR250R or a CRF450.... so this is a compromised.... I'll have maybe $500 into the entire bike when it's done.

Like hot rodding, ingenuity takes over. We used to ride a lot growing up.. nothing stayed factory. There was one who went Einstein on a 250 four wheeler.. ride a wheelie to 50 mph. Had no clue they'd get even bigger back then. 250 Honda was the going thing. I had a ke100 Kawasaki that never saw runtime. Someone else got it cheap.

I blame Fast and Loud - that Honda 50 they got in their deal; that was my 1st motorcycle - my dad bought it as parts for another motorcycle and I made it run (I was maybe 10)... so after F&L I started jonesing for a 50, then realized I could make this bike what I wanted for about the same money...

I got my license on a KE100.. first bike was a 50cc Suzuki Grasshopper. Still in front of the 67 Beetle in my dad's garage. You didn't see 800+ CC four wheelers coming? pffffft. me neither. The 200x Honda three wheeler kind of ruined it for me after I drove over my leg a few times. haha.

SBG, I have an old CR250 and frankly, I'm not man enough to ride it. It's TALL and long and scares the shit out of me. I wouldn't get anywhere near trees with it but I'm kind of not into the whole Sonny Bono thing.

So, Super.......I've google searched both bikes and on this phone they look the same. I'm assuming that the 250 frame is slightly shorter and not as tall and maybe the back tire slightly narrower ? I was guessing you to be a tall boy. My fist bike was a MX 60 Yamaha dirt bike. Last on was a TS Suzuki 250 on / off road. It was a blast but a little small for the street and me at 125 lbs back when I was 21, a little big for the woods and ravines.

Had a TS100 and a DT250. The 250 was definitely heavy for the woods! The early DT's engine could hold a battleship still.

Yeeeeeesssss. Big bore 2 strokes are bad ass.

My favorite bike I've owned was a '93 RM250. The suspension and handling made that bike fun because the motor lacked hp, but man would it carve a corner! Fun fun fun.

My current KDX200 is a two stroke tractor and is fantastic for the kind of riding I do now.

Aluminum frame, revised suspension - those are the differences.

probably drag the ground a little if you put it in this:

maybe not so bad with this one. Was your Honda a hardtail?

Can't remember if I posted this stuff or not, but I just did a front end swap on my oldest son's TTR125. Gained 3" of travel and 3mm larger fork tubes. The forks are from a 1987 YZ80.

Had to make a caliper adapter because the TTR rotor is larger in diameter than the YZ80.

                            Jakes approves.

Nice! I'm about to pull a almost complete mid 80's YZ80 out of the yard and move it to location X. I think I still have a YSR, I wanted to use the plant for it.

ack - get the front wheel too!! The aluminum ones are way lighter.
