  • Christmas gift exchange - proposal

Hopefully this becomes sticky worthy; but here's the proposal:
    1) Members post up items that we have no use that will be given for free
    2) the only charge can be for actual shipping costs of the item to the person who wants the item
    3) first person to say "dibs" gets the item

    thoughts? worth doing?

Sounds like a great way to "share the wealth"

anything - the point is giving away stuff - example, last year I gave away a composite spring from when I upgraded my suspension - the issue with the spring was it was worth maybe 50-100 (what is the market for used plastic?) but it was more hassle than it was worth to CL it (plus, what happens if it breaks?)
But don't let the value fool you - it could be something you got for free and you're just sharing the wealth or something that you should throw away but it's valuable enough (again, back to the spring) that you feel guilty throwing it away.

it's a self-solving problem - posting stuff that no one wants really does give the potential giver an idea of what people think of his stuff ;)

and this isn't white elephant, once someone says dibs; the only way it's not going to the recipient is if they deem the shipping cost as too much

I suppose I should have added that....

the way to claim the item goes like this - the person who's first says dibs, and their zip code. the giver then finds out how much to ship (again, there are no handling or boxing charges allowed). Once the amount is determined for shipping the recipient needs to get money to the giver (paypal, carrier pigeon, snail mail, etc) and the item will be shipped.

It's really no different than trying to glue them back on after she has her way.

Neat idea. What the heck, someone must want my junk as bad as I did when I brought it home??

                              I'm in too.

I was actually about to tell Todd I had a free hottub for him - but John beat me to it!
