  • Stahl Headers Closing

Sad to see another great company closing.
Lots of 348-409 headers came from these folks.

Bummer. Any more info? Could be that Jere wants to retire and no buyer could be found, might be that sales are down and they have to go out of business - all sorts of possibilities. But a fine old company no doubt.

I think Judy was the thread holding everything together in the end.....just my two cents.

She and I talked when I was doing the '55 Chevy........trying to get some headers for the 409 done.
Just another great old company going by the wayside.

You think the new generation engines are the reason?? Nostalgia is great, but I would think companies have to have the resources to keep up with the evolving technology......am I way off base here??

Yeah........I think this probably has something to do with it.

It's always say to see another company that became a legend in drag racing closing their doors.

I am sure there are more then one reason why this is happening right now but part of it has to be the economy and there are many other racing companies who have either gone out of business or are hanging on my their finger nails right now.

I remember the day's when almost every drag racer had a Stahl Headers decal on the side of their car.

I also remember when Dick Moroso told me he was moving his family to PA to taking a job working for Jere and Judy back around 1966

This is the part of drag racing that is hard to take when companies that gave so much to the sport go out of business.

why did they say "closing manufacturing operations?" does that mean some of the business will still exist?
Doing it all wrong since 1966

Here you go, I think I took this picture in August of 1968, I was the Gopher running errands for the real "Grumpy Jenkins" that day.

With the crazy prices they have, I am surprised they have lasted this long. 1000 bucks for a SBC camaro header? Yikes

Well they weren't always that pricey (JK) but you paid if you wanted to compete and they were the absolute best you could buy for a SBC. The $130 was probably a lot back then but like I said, you paid if you wanted the best, I probably bought 8 to 10 sets off of Stahl over the years

Face it everyone and their grandma makes headers now a days and OBX and their cheap stainless headers really put a hurting on the guys that still think Stainless is the new big deal and want to charge for it.

I paid over a grand for the Kooks headers in my 95 Z in 2007, but finding good long tube headers for a LT1 is not that cheap.
