I pick it up at lunch today if all goes as planned.
My first truck was a '73 F100. I loved that truck. I've been dying for a dentside for a long time and for 5 bills, this one was pretty hard to pass up. The wifey even said it was kinda cute... go figure.
Man I'd love to spend a day with a buffer and see how much of that paint can be saved!!
Buff it out, polish the trim and SOS pads for the rust on the wheels and I bet the difference would be staggering!
I know you already know a TON about the 385 series...but WAY back in the day I followed the advice in the second post.
Cheap 204/214 cam on a stock bottom end with recurved stock dist & 650 carb/used performer intake. It was a NIGHT and DAY difference and totally worth the effort on that highmile motor. http://www.network54.com/Forum/85220...s+gutless+help!
I think Eric (Ford141) used the smallest Lunati voodoo cam on his stock 460 with home ported heads and he says it RIPS!
The strip had a nice race/show. Western Fuel Altered's Nitro cars / Alky cars plus a nice sized show. The pics are not great due to the suns position and my
I always PUSH people to cam their smogger 460's... SOOO much performance improvement with little to no impact on mpgs
Although.... I think it needs a stroker motor and the Four Eye get a BIGGER bullet....
Haha... baby steps! The thought did occur that I could eventually put parts from the Mustang on it. lol
My '73 was the same color yellow and that paint would really come alive if you hit it with some compound.
I think the best change a guy can make to these is a cam swap and installing a non-retarded timing set. Time will tell. If it runs decently, I will probably leave it alone and just enjoy it. For 500 bux, I fully expect it to need some work, but if it's bad, I'll just flip it or part it.
for that money, if there are floor boards, rocker panels and cab corners you're doing very well. The simple fact that the area above the back tires is intact is mind boggling to me. Back in Pa those trucks were swiss cheese when I was old enuff to drive...patched with bondo or duct tape...

If you can leave two black stripes from the exit of one corner to the braking zone of the next, you have enough horsepower. - Mark Donohue
The hole in the front fender looks like typical Arizona rust, from dirt getting trapped between panels, then getting wet when it finally rains. Repeat for 20 years, there's a rust hole.
A friend has a 78 F250 that he bought new in Minnesota, over 400k miles on it, he's finally retiring it, buying a new truck.
"Camper Special" ... Looks good from the pic, like the cab corners are okay and such. Not much to the front ends, except I would specify lifetime replacement parts! BOY did I learn my lesson on that.
/edit - read the title... F250. I'm an idiot. haha.

Cool truck. I owned a 77(I think) F250 Camper Special in the early 80's. Metallic brown with some sort of big decal on the hood, I forget what it was. Bought it specifically to tow a race car( my first drag car, 67 Mustang). Hell of a nice truck.
the only person on this forum that seems to be able to leave well enough alone is Squirrle...I am calling bullshit too!
The same guy who up until the last few installs put BBC's in everything and said good enough? HAHAHAHA. Sure.. Sure. What's he gonna put in the Nova? A 292? Not! (edit - sorry... Chevy II)
I can see the timing chain check for smogger chain as a "maintenance item"... maybe the stock cam is flat.
James... I have a set of D0ve's... just sayin.
