  • Chevy truck and Corvette named Car & Truck of the Year

Do you believe that this award was objective or bought and paid for by GM?

Was that before or after the truck caught on fire . . . . http://www.detroitnews.com/article/2...xt%7CFRONTPAGE

Which COTY/TOTY awards? I thought Dodge Ram won the first back-to-back in MT TOTY (according to a commercial I about half-watched this weekend)

RAM (It's still a Dodge to me, regardless of what the Italians say) apparently did win again . . . .

I call myself a MoPar guy, but Ford has the rep for trucks. They've been keeping it up with drivetrain improvements of late, but regardless until GM or Dodge put together a long string of improvements Ford should get most of the awards. It's like Rolls doesn't sell a LOT of cars (any?), but they carry the rep.

And the Corvette? Still can't get past THOSE taillights. It's like if Ferrari no longer offered Red as a basic color.

COTY/TOTY awards are based on freshness and novelty.

Here's some less-than-brilliant stuff that won in its day:

          1983 AMC / Renault Alliance
          1982 Chevrolet Camaro Z28
1981 Chrysler K Cars, Dodge Aries and Plymouth Reliant
          1980 Chevrolet Citation
1978 Chrysler, Dodge Omni and Plymouth Horizon
1976 Chrysler, Dodge Aspen and Plymouth Volare
          1971 Chevrolet Vega
1963 American Motors (AMC) Rambler (all models: American, Classic, and Ambassador)
          1961 Pontiac Tempest

And the last "fresh and novel" Chevy truck idea was?

the more something specific gets an award, the more I look in another direction.

Get ready for veritable ocean of this sort of marketing pabulum over the next decade as the OEMs pull out all the stops to sell the non-traditional, high-m.p.g. vehicles that the government requires.
