The team at Comp Cams and I are pretty close. They sent us the mother thumper (middle stage thumper). We had a 355 11:1 motor full 2 1/2inch exhaust to thrush mufflers. Cant remember all the cam specs off of the top of my head but it sounded amazing. Because we were trying to have a race motor run on pump gas, we couldnt ever get the car officially correct. But to help with that we did bump down the cam to a regular thumper cam. Both cams sounded absolutely amazing.
Everyone that we have ever talked to and persuaded into getting one say they love it. Talk to the guys at comp. A really great group of guys that are willing to help at any moment. If you live in or around Memphis, go and ask them personally, they'll even give you a tour. The youngest guy on the board

My dad got the smallest flat tappet one for his 350 in his 56. (vid below) It's mainly a no-go showboat anyway, so it works for him. The biggest downside is not really being able to set the timing correctly. The flat tappet Thumprs are actually repackaged circle track cams, so it's designed for midrange and upper rpm power. The rollers are actually designed from scratch to get the sound, but going rollers reduces friction which adds more power anyway, so it's a trade-off. I don't recommend the flat tappet grinds. My dad went that route because he put it in a stock head(pressed in studs) crate engine. I would personally go with the XE272HR in a stock 350. It's a roller cam that still works well with stock to light stall with mild gearing.

Yeah, slippery slope when a customer wants to change just one thing. It's another case of, you can't have this without that. He forwards me a link for a 400 HP 350 build. Yeah, I can build that. But, gonna be a lot more than the cam change you initially asked about......and don't forget, to insure that combo doesn't disappoint, you'll be changing converter, gears and exhaust. You've went from about $800 to maybe in the neighborhood of $5000. Watchoowannado? Me, I'd put a far milder 406 in the bitch and buy stock in a tire company. hahaLast edited by groucho; January 23, 2014, 04:27 PM.STUGOTS

I tried to stay out of this one but I don't think I want to purchase a cam based on it's "sound" and being sent an article says to me "Kickass, I'll build it JUST LIKE THIS ONE" and then it will repeat the results. They call them recipes for a reason.Last edited by Beagle; January 23, 2014, 04:58 PM.Flying south, with a flock of bird dogs.

That's the thing with a tighter LSA it'll have MORE Snap down low. Wide LSA's are great for top end power numbers, but if you want to increase torque in the lower rpm's you tighten up the LSA.The Green Machine.
