Maybe I can borrow the drivetrain they pulled until they decide to give that one back, wouldn't that be nice?

Love it -the video guys are certainly stepping up their game.

one point of contention - the car got good mileage with the old 3.55 gears driving home from Indy -

It did not go 10.10 on those gears, it went 10.10 with 4.56 gears swapped in for the drag strip passes.

I understand it still has an overdrive auto - but - what's the highway fuel economy with those 4.56 gears, that engines going to be turning substantially more rpm at freeway speed in over drive spinning 4.56 than 3.55.

surely a big vote in favor of EFI for convenience and drive-ability,
Sure helps when someone else is supplying everything and is on site to help you tune it ....

yup they have one of the best jobs on the planet!
There's always something new to learn.

John, some guys have changed pumpkins on drag week, nothing new there. You forgot to mention having Robin Lawrence helping you set up your EFI ... lol.

I'm glad they had fun with it, and it almost impresses me as much as some of our guy's cars here. Namely BBR's Mustang which I suspect came in complete priced less than the cost of the LS without the transmission or EFI.

Cool show, but even with a 690hp street tune, the LS will never look as cool as the BBC with a huffer. If you have to have a hole in the hood for induction, it should look cool.

With a GOOD converter the rear gear has a much less of effect. Just my .02 with a proper converter it wouldn't matter much what rear gear it had. That trans likely has a 3.X first gear anyways. Take away a good converter and the rear gear makes a much larger difference.

I wonded back in the day of the flat head. Did guys grip about how ugly the SBC was when it came out and became the defalt hotrod engine? The same way guys now wine about the LS being ugly?

Looks don't bother me, I have never painted an engine block. I am mosty a function over form, the one thing I miss is the old sound. What kind of mufflers did they put on the crusher?

I would have called the SBC ugly compared to a well done flattie with strombergs, yes.

the BBC with a huffer is a pretty engine to me - it just looks serious. I agree with form over function though, which is why I'm looking very hard at diesels right now. BUT - my gawd they are ugly looking to me.

Shhhhhh! [whispering] It's not nice to interrupt a worship service with thread hijacks.

Besides that's already been "scooped" by an intrepid investigative journo in another thread . . . .

damn John, lighten up... as I read from my hero Grey Baskerville (who may or may not have ripped off Lil John Buttera) "Don't take all this car crap too seriously, it's just another way to keep from walking"

The mufflers on the Camaro are Hookers. The headers, x-pipe, and mufflers are all Hooker pieces.

I think guys did complain about the SBC when it came out and how easy it was to go fast because they had been killing themselves on the flatheads for years to make the power that those things were making virtually stock.
That which you manifest is before you.

It's a cool episode for sure. That thing is fast AND had great manners in all kinds of weather. It faster than my big inch BB and certainly gets better mileage.

The only hang up I have is the cost. Geez, how many of us have $25k+ to plop down on a 700hp engine, efi system and trans? (not to mention a brace of Holley engineers to tune the thing) Sure you can have your mileage/performance cake and eat it too, but I like to feed my family and pay my bills!

I guess I'll just stick to my dump truck motor, school bus transmission and 60's carburetor technology.
