    I Can't Remember Anything

My daddy said there's three things you lose when you get older. According to him, the first thing to go is your hearing. The second thing is your memory, and he said he couldn't remember the third thing.

Daddy was sitting in his chair one day and he said, "I Can't remember ANYTHING." That was a big speech for him, he didn't waste any words.

I got into a deal at work yesterday (or was it the day before that?) where I had something in my hands and somebody asked me something and I never saw the thing I my hands again.

Lost it. Pulling my hair out trying to find it later. Couldn't retrace my steps from the database of what I thought I remembered I did.

Finally found it, and then it all made sense. Sure, I set it down there and then I did another thing and....it's scary, it really is. And it'll only get worse.

Welcome to middle age. It gets worse. Wait 'till you make yourself notes, then lose those. You can't avoid it, it happens.

You know what's the worst is when your wrenching on a car and stop and you put the wrench down, then wipe off your hands with a rag and throw the rag on top of the wrench and then walk a way, only to return and wonder where the hell did that wrench go??

Or put it in your back pocket, only to find it at lunchtime.

I lost my 13mm long wrench once, looked all over the place for it, then like two years later I look up by the cowl seal on the truck I had at the time and there it was. F'n thing had been just traveling around all over the place and never fell out.

I found my leather gloves today. They had been hiding on the mezzanine for a couple of weeks so I got thru our cold snap with my Thinsulate gloves, which were OK. I don't know WHY they decided to hide up there - maybe they were on strike? But I tracked 'em down.

No memory of leaving them there. So yes, it does get worse. But every day is new!

It's real, and I don't like it. My mind used to be like a steel trap, and now it's like a fish basket. The really big shit stays in it but everything else flows straight through and is gone. I don't like it.

I often say that I have a mind like a steel sieve. You might as well find the humor in it as it's coming one way or 't'other. It IS worrisome, for sure.

                  But don't worry, What'syername - we'll all - um - (positive thing) - Oh, yeah - LIKE you anyhow.

                    that is funny.

I lose nuts and bolts, also a 13mm.. a ten mil.
the sube like to hold things on the engine crossmember. could sit there for years.

I remember once, I got done doing something, dropped the hood, took off down the highway..
to come back to a socket wrench still sitting on the bumper.

one smooth ride up there apparently.

At work I can still prioritize and go forward, like I've got my stuff together, and it all goes well until I get interrupted.

Stop the flow, take care of whatever that was and then I'm standing there wondering what f-ing day it is and what I was supposed to be doing be doing before I got interrupted. Like Stude said, it only gets worse in a hurry.

I don't like it, and I don't want to be 20 years old again. I don't want to be that stupid again.

So there's no solution, really. Just ride it out I reckon.

I have been helping Mike C. put the straight 8 Buick engine back together. About 2 weeks ago I installed the timing chain, we put the head on a couple of days ago. Today we put the lifters, pushrods and rocker arm assembly on. Then we proceeded to adjust the valves at .026 on both the intake and exhaust valves. As we were rotating the engine I checked a couple of valves that we had already adjusted and they had a whole lot of clearance. Something is bad here, I got to thinking, the only thing that could cause that is the cam/crank timing is off. Then I think, I remember lining the timing marks up like on the Chevrolet V8 engines, which is not the way a straight 8 should be timed. I took the front end off and sure enough, it was wrong. Now that's bad memory.

That's another problem, I call it 'autopilot'. Did you close the garage door? Did you turn off the coffee pot? Habitual stuff we do every day becomes so routine we don't remember doing it.......or we do it at the wrong time.
Cosby said , "if you go into another room and can't remember why you're there, grab your ass". He's right. You will remember when you go back to the recliner and sit down......so grab your butt and save yourself the trip.

                              Only gets worse for sure..
Was at the scrap yard.. Looked acrosd the office booth to another driver leaving.. He caught my eye and grinned and nodded!
Oh yeah! Old boss's brother.. Whazziz name.. Unloaded, got paid tried to hollar for him... Couldn't well hollar "Hey you!" We chatted a bit and went on our ways.. When I pulled in my driveway 35 miles later JERRY!
Lost a brand new 3/8 deive 1/4 socket out of my new Snap On set.. Looked for it.. Must be in my drill sockets as that is where I was using it.. Well cleaning out the bung hole so I could put my rear board in before the trip above.. Saw shiny in the crap I was flinging down, I must have clened that bung several times as well as the kid cleaning it too.. Firewood and gravel tends to clog he bung.. There was that socket! Don't remember using it on the back of the truck!
