    2002 forester..
rap'n on driver side near timing belt.
rap goes away when you rev it and hold it at 1500 then comes back if you let it idle.. once warm it rap rev and it stops and is gone until it cools.. do these have hyd timing tensioners or??.. I'd think a rod rap it not go away..

    Ideas
used a rubber hose and the rap'n seems to be near the drivers side timing belt pully/gear and or the front cyl.. 187k 1700.oo

oil pump is in there, and water.

tensioners typically do not rap, they quick whistle, no thuds.

those blocks are crazy, you can find impellers digging into the casting..floats the oil pump, my first guess as to what is hitting at slow speed..layer of oil cushion gone.

when the ea82 goes into those stages, there is only 400,000 miles and 3 decades left for the oil pump.

I'd avoid the EJ engine like a chinese plague...
