    Business idea

I have an idea that's been kicking around in my head for about a decade now. And now that I've been unemployed for a few months now, I'm thinking about pursuing it.

Combination auto-service shop and hair/beauty salon. The idea is to efficiently use building space so that the waiting area is making money while the car is being serviced. Basic LOF, brakes, muffler, battery, alternator, etc service while you get your hair cut, styled, colored, etc. More advanced over-night repairs can be done as well. It might help with making the ladies feel less intimidated about bringing their car into a shop.

    I think it's a gold-mine. Thoughts?

Forgot to add, it would be called The Auto Salon.

I'm serious though. Trying to think of why this wouldn't work and why it hasn't been done already. I've been searching the net for a while and the closest thing I can find is a combo hair salon and carwash.

        Maybe a lube shop/hair salon..
        Tire shop?
Maaaaybe a car repair shop, but? Dunno? Most stuff takes too long? At least longer than a wash/set/style?
I wouldn't know as my wife does not go in salons!

Yeah, just LOF, tires, brakes, other services that take less than 2 hrs book time. Anything else would be shuttle car service home for the customer and their new doo. And a proper cut, color and style takes more than an hour, sometimes much more. I once dated a lady that owned her own salon.

why ,why, you wanna know why.. have you seen the cost of auto repairs. and do you know what salons get for the work they do. this shop you are dreaming would need to be in a town with money... next problem with your plan is cars never breakdown the same time the lady needs the hair colored.. or nails done.. as most people wait until vehicle repair can't wait no more.. NEXT there isn't a husband that let the wife near your shop.. as they know that , the brake job will not only cost them the 250-1000.oo but also a 100+ salon bill on top of it.. Me I'd put a Duncan donuts/starbucks and a sub/pizza shop..

Wealthy area? Yeah, you could say that. My town is a 'boutique' town created to house Microsoft, Boeing and Amazon management. This isn't a service designed to care for people pinching pennies. It's for someone who doesn't bat an eye paying for a $100 lunch, let alone a $130 oil change, $800 brake job and $300 hair all on one bill. And a $10 coffee. Also need to remember that although the target demographic is the housewife with an Amex, the men in this price bracket go to salons too and wouldn't ever think of doing any work on their BMWs, Audis or Mercedes themselves.

I don't have enough clout in the local organized crime club to survive in that game. Last strip club around here ended badly, you know that.

problem with your thinking is, these people don't trust their cars to a shop, they go back to the dealer.. most of the cars have free 2 year maintain with them and traded in before they are 3-4 years old.. I stand with my first post.. shop for reg joe cars with a coffee/sub/pizza shop..

Before I went to work for Boeing I worked in a European specialty shop in town. We did anything Audi, BMW, Mercedes, Jaguar, etc. Including classics and new models (usually not any newer than 3 years...2nd owner lease returns). We were very, very busy. People around here don't necessarily trust dealerships.

Someone suggested to me that I also add a drive-through coffee window. I could serve over-priced espresso to the customers inside and catch the commuters during the down-time.
