You would think at least the 6cylinder could be had stripped down to crank windows, etc. It would lighten the weight, increase the platforms average fuel mileage. Then at 300Hp it wouldn't be a slouch either.

I sat next to a guy on a plane from Chrysler a couple years ago and he told me that it is more cost effective to put power windows in a car than crank up.

It sounds insane, but this guy made the case.

I believe it, they make them as cheaply as they can.

It's a volume thing, economy of scale, more power window's ordered the cheaper they are, to the point the motors become cheaper (both parts and labor to install) than the manual windows. Same story with the SS trucks.
Aw common' guys . . . this is an awful lot of b*ing about a new muscle car hitting the streets. A reasonably powerful car that is reasonably good looking and you guys are complaining about the cost already : Has anyone actually seen the actual cost of these cars? :
By the way, I can tell you that the old 1st gen title weights were DRY weights -- with no fluids whatsoever. Back then registration fees were often determined by title weight so Detroit had reason to keep title weights low. My 68 title says 2960 as I recall (I can dig it out later if needed) -- that was with a 6 cylinder, the local truck stop scale had the car 200 lbs heavier than that with a half tank of gas. Then went in a small block, roll bar, 3 speed tranny and all the other necessary race stuff. Now it weighs 3300 w/o driver.
Trying to talk the wife into one to replace her mini-van. Doesn't look promising, she likes the mini-van. ;D
