The guys and gals, loaded up in a neighbor's Cadillac, out to flirt with trouble like a bunch of idiot teenagers. We periodically do this.

1943 Low-level U.S. bombing attack on Romanian oil facilities. 177 B-24s left the base in Libya, only 88 returned, 55 of which had battle damage (one aircraft had 365 bullet holes, mostly from ground fire). I looked at this for quite a while...the phrase that finally comes to mind: Scared Sh*tless, that's what I would be if I were the guy taking this photo out the back of another B-24. 310 airman killed in the one raid which was considered unsuccessful.

woburn mass.. 1960s. Before surge of viet nam.
the hearse was driven as regular car.
that locale was draft hot spot. My dad stood in line to get rejected.
it saved his life.
my dad called me today, he rambled on about "the pool hall"
within a few years of this photo, 3 were dead to viet nam, 2 more vegetabled.
3 dead to overdose (they went hippy)
1 went famous and played pool with minnesota fats.
1 lost lost his legs in a garbage truck accident. My dad witnessed it.
At least several went on to be hell's angels biker gangstas.
my dad? he hitchhiked across the country 3 times.
forgot he made my older brother with my mom...
we have yet to meet.

'Tis the season.....Transaxle was making some BAD noises intermittently so drug it home to swap in a fresh one. Bi-Annual Hill-Climb Competition is next weekend, hope to make it back for that.
Can't wait to see the carnage. Current transaxle makes HUGE LOUD banging ratcheting clanging noises - but not all the time. Sometimes under load, sometimes not. Scary enough to limp back to the cabin and not press the luck, lol. Guessing pinion bearing cage shattered or something similar.
Of all the paths you take in life - make sure a few of them are dirt.
