        Re: For you Math wizards

If you are going to say the answer is zero, because the bus has no legs, then the question is wrong, because the girls with backpacks with cats, with kittens are ON the bus !!!

          Re: For you Math wizards

Well if you are looking for the general statement of buses have no legs that is your answer.

Not counting the driver here is my solution.

          7 girls = 14 girls legs

          7 girls w/7 backpacks each = 49 Backpacks w7cats each = 343 Cats w/4legs each = 1,372 cat legs

          343cats w/7 kittens each = 2,401 kittens w/4 legs each = 9,604 kitten legs

For a grand total of legs combining the girls, the cats and the kittens and not counting the driver or any other legs for that matter =10,990 legs

                  unfortunately beagle got it wrong.

in my opinion its word problems like this that makes kids today to be able to pull the wool over their parents eyes.

So zero is not the answer ?

A math solution requires a numeric answer, not English, right ?

                      Re: For you Math wizards

for a math solution the solution can be in either format at times for example "not enough info"

                        Re: For you Math wizards

                        The answer is still 0
The girls were all amputees. And to stuff 7 cats and 49 kittens into a backpack, they would have had to be compressed to the point that they become amorphic blobs of blood and fur.

that is not what the question states.

What if someone threw one of the Backpacks into a Lake?

And yes I have two cats at home.

Theoretically there are only 14 legs on the bus. You see the question states that "There are 7 girls "on a bus"", the cats and the Kittens aren't on the bus, they are in the backpacks. So again theoretically the cats and kitten's legs aren't actually "on the bus". You know as in touching the bus. ;) ;D
