Re: Chrysler Sebring.Worst car in the world?

I absolulely hate most all chrylsler products, I have to drive them on a daily basis, all the bigger stuff has transmission problems or rear end isue, and all the smaller stuff has either a bad engine or a some sort of a suspension problem, ick all the way around, now dont get me wrong, give me a 1985 cummins 3/4 ton 4wd and i am in love, but thats completely besides the point

Hmm. That convert picture does not look good...but hoestly, I feel any convertable is not going to offer a hell of a lot of side protection to be brutally honest.
Then again, I've seen regular stuff hit like that...what concerns me is the deformation of the cowl.
I'd be curious if the door beam inside the door ripped all of it's welds?

One of the wife's friends had a co-worker with a plastic POS saturn coupe, first gen, got smoked by a kid with a heavy foot running a last gen trans am.
The saturn was worse looking than that convert there...girl driving same deal, but it was a front colission, despite with the air bags she still broke an assortment of bones, lots of damage, and just a general failing of the structure of a 100% original car she bought new and never wrecked. Had to roll around in a chair for 2 years.

Here are a few from what was left of my mom's '87 5.0 after meeting a train on a stormy november night on a unfinish rail crossing.
She was not in it. car got hit, thrown 35 feet up, for about 100 yards. landed on the roof.
I have the engine and 5 speed still, runs great.

I could go on about a few other wrecks I've dealt with or worked on.
All I am going to say is buckle up. a sore body is a hell of a lot better than a head through the windshield.

A little off topic, but this comment made me google image search "buick centurion wrecked" just to see if there were any pictures of a wrecked Centurion, and to my surprise on page two of the search was Frieburger's Avitar, haha. My avitar popped up on the first page.
        Escaped on a technicality.

Jody's Sebring took a hit from a SUV doing 50 in a 35 mph zone. The door was ripped in half and the impact bar was detached inside it. The cowl and dash were folded in half. The door jamb was shoved inward as well. Amazingly Jody's legs were only slightly bruised. Her jaw was shattered and so did most of her upper teeth. They just took a piece of her hip to rebuild the front upper jaw area. Her right thumb was nearly torn off her hand from being in the steering wheel during impact. She also broke three vertibrae in her neck, but luckily has no paralysis.

            Damn.
Well, I hope she will heal and things go ok for her.
            I had a childhood freind that got hit by a guy who ran a red light here in Omaha back probably in '98 or '99. broke her hip in 3 places...took 2 years of recovery, and every time the weather changes, she feels it {only 29 years old}
She was in a Neon, and honestly I was surprised she was not worse off.

Myself, worse wreck I've probably taken was putting the front clip of my '88 Tempo GLS coupe down the side of a brand new 1995 GT probe on a highway {I'm talking the probe went under the front of my car, lifted it, and smoked from front to back. The cops said 5 seconds sooner, would of been a direct hit in my door, and the old guy driving was doing about 70 at the time of impact. I pulled chunks of my car out of the windshield. Snapped both his struts on the passenger side. Passenger air bag went through the glass...luckily, no riders. Just a car coming from the local auto auction.

Jody is recovered except for the jaw surgery she just had. She has some scarring around her mouth. She's very self conscious about it. I think she has to wait until her jaw is healed before they can do any plastic surgery to fix it. She is a beautiful girl and very sweet. Damn shame.

Her husband, Byron, decided she needed a tougher car so he got her a Mercedes C class. Those are built like tanks.

Re: Chrysler Sebring.Worst car in the world?

My worst wreck was in '87...my stepmom had a '84 Escort Pony, somewhere in Penn. (I think Garden Grove area, but I'm not 100% sure, I was 4). We were driving back from my dad's job, some guy in a late-70's Dodge van fell asleep and his foot sank to the floor. Hit the back of the car twice, the second time he shoved the rear clockwise, and when the rear tires dug in, the car did a barrelroll-to-end/over/end flip sequence. I've seen the pictures, I'm wondering why I don't have scars from it. Both A-pillars tore back to the B-pillar, leaving ejection a sincere possibilty, seatbelt or no. Two wheels were MIA, and one of the struts was through the hood/fender.

I'm so glad the only thing I truly remember from that was seeing my younger brother hanging from the seatbelt, chanting over and over..."This was NOT fun, I DO NOT want to do this again, get me DOWN from here, I want to go HOME now please..."
                Editor-at-Large at...well, here, of course!

"Remy-Z, you've outdone yourself again, I thought a Mirada was the icing on the cake of rodding, but this Imperial is the spread of little 99-cent candy letters spelling out "EAT ME" on top of that cake."

Re: Chrysler Sebring.Worst car in the world?

Gosh. My worst nightmare. Hop into a girl's car convertible, and then to suddenly realize that I'm in, omg, a girl's car convertible. Damn guy at the rental counter...how could he trick me like that?!

News about Sebrings: They are not musclecars, they are fwd girl's cars. They are convertibles thus will not be as strong as a hard-roof car. Inspection with one's eyes will reveal that and the purchaser will be expected to make their own decision regarding suitability. The top has to go somewhere when folded. That will either be above the rr fenders or below, but it has to go somewhere. It can't just disappear. If with a tiny frontal area and a 2.7 engine it is only getting the milage of a pickup truck, something is wrong with either the car or the driver. Same as if, say, a tire goes flat...there's something wrong. Don't skewer Chrysler over it until you've looked into the problem.

If you find there are also a lot of other things wrong but either don't know enough about cars to be specific or just enjoy sounding clever without bothering with details, such as our reviewer at the beginning of the thread, Car&Driver may have some nice BMWs for you.

I don't like the new Sebrings either (my wife's old one did everything well enough, incl. 32 mpg at a steady 75) so, I won't get one. Gosh, if I did I might suddenly look around myself, figure out that I might be seen in a fwd girl's car and thus in order to preserve my manliness have to declare it "The Worst Car In The World", after which I will feel a little better. Who needs that?
