So as I've said in the past, my father in law totally rules. (He's the guy with the GTX)

He called me this evening to tell me that he was bringing something over. He said that he dragged it out of the dumpster at the plant (of which he is the top manager...he runs the joint).

He caught wind that the machine shop at the plant was getting rid of a drill press as they had bought some new machinery.

The guy literally climbed into the dumpster, loaded this baby into his truck and brought it over to my house. I've wanted a drill press for the longest time, but I didn't want to buy junk, and we've been on money lockdown as the new kiddo is coming in a couple of weeks.

I like my new toy! It's a sweet JET unit. The stand was made by one of the guys at the plant.

i like it i bought a 70 era craftsman drill press in a pawn shop a few years back for next to nothing it is a great tool just don't hold on to any thing you are trying to drill holes in clamp it down your fingers will thank you

Learned that lesson with a piece of bar stock several years ago.

Those two bolts lag it down onto the base/stand.

Nice! be sure to get a chinese drill press vise to use with it, they don't cost much these days.

And leave room for when he brings home the lathe and milling machine

what a coincidence -- my now wife and her dad got me a drill press for the first Christmas we were dating - it's no JET tho!
(and come to think of it - I've not gotten any tools from her since!)

I started dating my wife in HS when we were 16. We went to college together and the whole works. He's a great guy, always has been. He's also the dad of four daughters so when I started showing up and was interested in hot rods, drag racing, etc, I was in his good graces right quick.

I'm going to have to call JET today to see if I can score a key from them as the only thing I am missing is the key to tighten the chuck.

acedepotlowes home store should have a key. One of them actually sells jet I can't remember witch. Nice score!
