Re: There's still hope for the "fastfood auto parts"

I've given up on a decent parts store up here in Washington. I buy most everything but the very basics (wipers, fluids, etc) online from Rock Auto or similar. I feel bad about not using the local shop (there is only one and 1/2 left) - but even they have lost their best counter guys.

I really miss the old independant store back home.
Those guys not only knew thier stuff and raced themselves, but they took the time to show a punk kid like me a thing or two.
They had a basic set up of machine tools in the back, nothing fancy, but enough to do a valve job, surface a flywheel or head, press on a bearing, repair a radiator leak, etc.

They would take me back there and let me watch them work on stuff when they weren't too busy - and they'd work on the owners race cars back there too.

Now the place is an indoor climbing wall.... damned shame.

Given we're talking about fastfood auto parts; it's a bit poetic that it's a climbing wall :D

I suppose you're right - hadn't thought of it that way - oh the irony!

The Murray's in Walled Lake is holding out on the O'Rielly's deal. He's talking with other auto part suppliers. I think he's the only independent store.
