Have they done this just because they can or is it a way of getting an excavator on and off a building or something?

Took me a bit to work out how it was holding on when it was moving the boom!

I've seen that before and I think it's brilliant.
A very simple and easy way to get an excavator onto a building (for demolition) or up a very steep embankment.
      No need for a crane..

        Wow!

I'm guessing that you don't want to send a guy who's on his first week operating the machine to do that.

I've seen "Trials" for motorcycles, I guess thats "Trials" for excavators.

That's a relatively "small" excavator(maybe as big as a Caterpillar 315 excavator, I've hauled these and bigger), but still....a novel way to get it to the elevated worksite!

Just better hope it doesn't pop a hydraulic line on the way up/down or lose a cylinder.

That is a relatively small track-hoe, but quite the ingenious method of moving it upwards. Wow.
              Escaped on a technicality.

Heh...had to be somewhere other than the U.S.

DOT would be on them with an overweight ticket in the blink of an eye.

                        Cool vid, though.
