    Re: Fire Extinquisher?

I have two at home, both are out in the open for easy access. One is in the garage and the other is in the basement. Having had a house fire on 9-11-07, I wish I could have been home to use mine, I may have been able to reduce the damages to my house after the toaster apparently caught fire. I would also like to make aware for anyone else unfortunate to be in my circumstances to know that there are private insurance advocates to represent you to your insurance carrier. They act similar to how an attorney would represent you. Check to see that your house contents are covered for full replacement and not prorated. I have Allstate and would highly recommend to rethink keeping them if you have them! Here's a link to my house. It is not fun going though this.

I have two in the garage and one in the house. Will be getting more for the cars as money permits.
I buy used ones from a local extinguisher guy. Way cheaper than my deductible.

              VERY Good advice,
They are the most overlooked or unavailble TOOL in many shops.Handy access, an QUICK ACTION takes care of most shop fires. Its also Most important to have your own ADEQUATE Extinguisher in your Ride and another in your pits, at any racing venue.

              2 senarios where they could've SAVED $$$$

ONE disaster when a fellow was pouring race fuel in a drag car,had a fire start by static electicity,QUICK actor saved the day with a fire extinguisher.

I would rather replace a couple of fire bottles, than my vehicles and home.

                    Re: Fire Extinquisher?

The CarJunkieTV shop just got 6 new extinguishers. Apparently the rule is one every 75 feet in Burbank so that's what we're doing. For those of you looking for the right one for your shop, keep in mind the CO2 extinguishers are cool and don't make a mess like the powder. The downside. We paid $250 for a 15 pounder. It's over twice as much as a powder extinguisher, but we figured one that didn't make a mess could be a good thing. Above all else however is the fact that fire is bad and a mess is better so just get the fire out. We'll try not to light anything important on fire. The lady out the fire extinguisher store laughed at us when DF and I walked in and said we needed extinguishers for "when" we lit something on fire. She laughed and said most people say "if". We assured her "when" was more appropriate.
