  • Folks serving our country... here or overseas?

Just curious how many of you are active duty serving our country and who's overseas...

It's pretty easy for me to remember how hard that really was... it's a bitch kitty when your kids wake up to Santa Claus without you...

German Xmas is kind of neat... so here's what you have to do...

Go down town to the local Chris Kringle mart and get me some Gluevine.. and roasted Chestnuts... hang out and be cold.... come back here and tell us how good it was... ( current Chris Kringle marts in the past week or two count )...

Where are you at --Manheim/Heidelburg area? Spent a month in Heidelburg, I think I enjoyed that overseas assignment the best.

At least it is a quick train ride to the Sachsenhausen from Mainz/Wiesbaden. When I was there it was the honor system for the train ride. Interesting story about no money and the inspector asking for our tickets. ;D

Personally I really enjoyed a weekend here and there in Rottenburg.

I am a traditional guardsman, also known as a weekend warrior.

I have been all over the world. Nothing too crazy being a mechanic but some of the maintanance rides can be interesting in war zones.

Saw a documentary on mechanics in Iraq - Having to go and bring back vehicles after they break down or are blow up a little. Those guys have it tough. It is one thing to do a patrol and keep moving. It is another to have to stop and hook up a tow. Those guys are pretty quick, not as quick as the tow operaters working town house developments around me.

Re: Folks serving our country... here or overseas?

Active duty with Uncle Sam's Misguided Children. I'm with a non-deployable unit at the moment, but they pull Marines from us to deploy with different units all the time. I'll probably be next to go. Have most of my training in order and everything.
I don't mind and I don't have much of a say. I'll go when they tell me. Chances are I'll volunteer next time I hear of an opening to go with someone.

Here is a link to an M984A1 HEMMIT wrecker. I used to tc on one, but mine didn't have any armor or a ring mount.

I got pulled off the wrecker to do my job as a 63G after the war started. Those guys would go out in the middle of nowhere with nothing but a wrecker and a pluger(GPS). Crazy shit!

I'm in Stuttgart, doing all the Weihnactsmarkts and Gluhwein etc. Believe me, this is a vacation. Those guys over in Iraq and Afghanistan are the real heroes. They are the ones that need our prayers and support, especially during the holidays.
