  • Lost Drag Strip, and a fun fact for Turk

Hey Keith- You know Dothan Airport? (Alabama, folks) It's at Napier Field, which was used as a drag strip at one time! It was run by the Wiregrass Timing Association. There's a story on it in the jan. '58 issue of Hot Rod.

I was gonna ask you if it's a problem putting copyright stuff on here, I'll take it off if you want. Just let me know!

and I got lucky, that's the only 1958 issue I have

WAY COOL! Is the airport/strip still there, Keith? I assume it's no longer running as a strip. If so, I'm bringing the 'Stang down, not that it's competitive - just fun.

They tell me there was a track on a WWII airport near here, too, but I can't find any evidence.

The airport and runway is still there, and it was a WWII auxilliary field.

Is it a copy violation if you give the details of where the information was sourced from?

I think that my use of the copyright material above is "fair use", but I also think that the copyright owner would be willing to spend more money paying lawyers than I would.

Pub lawyers disagree, but I think that the copyright may have expired...what's the length of term? I forget.

However, Wrights Reprints, which has the license for magazine reprints, has been going after people who post contemporary articles online.

I can understand that if an item is available for sale from someone with a lisence to the copyright, that it would not be fair use to post it. This stuff that's long out of print is different?

Anyways, I'll remove anything that anyone complains about.

And I know that lawyers only present evidence that supports the side of the argument they are paid to represent.
