  • Freiburger's Super Bee

    Hey DF,

What would it take to get the Bee road worthy? I noticed that a couple of guys asked that question in the blog section. Can you provide a list? Maybe some of your junkie brethren have parts that need a good home. Your chances of good parts scores increase if we're all searching with you.

I'll bet that we'd all like to see the Bee smokin' the hides again.

        Re: Freiburger's Super Bee

        To start with...
        - All the AN lines leak
        - All the tires are shot
        - The brakes are sketchy
        - The aluminum spool has mangled splines
        - The valvesprings are probably dead after sitting for so long
        - There's a crack in the aluminum oil pan

That's just what's actually broken. Then there's these:
        - There has always been something odd about the Dominator that's on it; I want to change to 2-circuit
        - The intake manifold sucks
        - It has 5.13s in it, which blows on the street
        - The converter sucks
        - It needs CalTracs rather than a pinion snubber
        - The front strut rods have been shortened and I'd like to undo that.
        - I hate the TurboAction shifter that's in it
        - The hood scoop does not line up well with the carb
        - The hood scoop is cracked
        - The paint shop lost the trim parts that hold the headliner in place and in 15 years of looking I have never found a set in black.

So to make it street worthy

Replace motor with neato crate motor
            Change out converter.
            Change gears and spool
            New tires.
            Fuel lines

The rest can be replaced and modified as time goes on while enjoying the car.

Is it possible to buy headliner trim parts in a different color and paint them to match?

to fit the crate motor mentality - use a zz4 350 in that bee

                  Re: Freiburger's Super Bee

Just a thought, do you have the tunnel ram 383 that was in the intake shoot out? Maybe a 8 3/4 out of another B body with a more reasonable gear? I know after having the HEMI all else would be a let down but it would be driveable fun and could maybe be done with stuff you have. At this point a hot 383 we more unique than a HEMI. Really like the car cool that you hung onto your first car (I have mine but its less cool)

                    Re: Freiburger's Super Bee

I do have the 383, though it'd need more gear than the Hemi! I had it planned for my Stude Gasser (that I also can't afford).

                      for the crate motor guys

Can the crack be repaired? Do you know anybody with a TIG? I'm sure that my buddy would be pleased to give it a try with his TIG, but we're a long way away.

If you were willing, send me the pan and I'll weld it up and send it back for free. Keep the HEMI. ;D

If I had that Bee you can bet it wouldn't be sitting in the garage collecting dust! It would collecting dust in the barn........ with my other junk.... :-[

Happy B-day to the little guy, give him a good ticklin' from my little guys. Make him laugh so hard it gets Mom concerned, you know what I mean?

Does the Bee need AN lines? That's not true Junkie style. ;D

                              What are the tire sizes?

Are you good with CSK or Pep Boys brake stuff? If so, post any relevant info.

A spool isn't streetable anyway. Do you have anything else that will fit?

Maybe this is an opportunity to experiment with beehive springs. I'm sure that they're costly, but maybe there's a Bee fundraiser in your future. I know...groan. Bee, beehive.
