The man was ahead of his time on flow work and also brought a end to the cubic in per pound and body style racing that was going on at the time with his short deck destroked big blocks using big block heads welded up and rolled over for a better valve angle.

I met him 4 times and will never forget the second at Indy when he Was pitted right next to WJ I have never seen motors leak so much water They where putting all kinds of stuff in them to slow it down with no luck and the WOT tune ups in the pits kicked butt, those where the days

IIRC, they were running a short deck (9.300) and a 6.300 rod on sbc journals..way ahead of his time cutting and rewelding heads..just like dick maskin..

cool stuff...where engineouity (sp?) was rewarded...

79/80/81 with the cut down bbc = in 82 they started with mountain motors 500 ci
RMS won the championship in 81-82-83-84 -won both IHRA and NHRA in 1983 and 1984
Bruce Allen won the IHRA title in 1985
those guys were racers , nothing but racing that car and getting it to the track . I wish I had that kind of focus
somewhere in my collection , I have all the rick voeglin articles in Car Craft from the 70s , when those guys were racing a corvette in modified eliminator , they really attracted grass roots fans , and in reher morrison's pits , the fans were always wecome to hang out , almost help the guys work on the car
david and bruce haven't really been back since bruce allen almost got killed in the race car .
pro stock really misses them for sure

R-M-S was the best. Was a very sad day when Sheppard got killed.
