Re: End of an era in NASCAR

I know of the *one*....you ran it as a last-page deal in HR.

Felt bad for ya when you mentioned asking King Richard about it, not realizing what the endgame was.

The fact he was able to strap back into a race car was a testament to his will......

It's a damn shame it finally came to this, but this day has been coming for a long time, sadly.

My wife and I had the privilege of visiting the Petty Museum this past Summer. It was awesome, and we also drove out to the old Petty Enterprises building in Level Cross.

I knew this day was coming, but it's still really sad.

Richard is still The King IMO!

Re: End of an era in NASCAR

Here's another Petty Enterprises drag car. As you can see, it was Roy Hill's. Steve Atwell owned this car last time I was at his place.

As far as the other statement goes: the Petty clan didn't sell too many old race cars. They buried them on the property at Level Cross. Rumor has it there were Superbirds and others used as ground filler under the newer portion of the shop.

Nascar's (France family's :) formula flat works... butts in the seats, makin' money hand over fist, and tv coverage... just susceptible to sponsor problems like the rest of the economy.
Bottom line on that is this: As it is, its not going away. Period.
Teams will come & go, but the marketing setup works.

That being said, the ONLY thing(s) I like about NASCAR are the engines.

I would definitely watch a production car dirt-track race with big names driving over any 1.5 mile race. Boooooringgggg.

Re: End of an era in NASCAR

I wonder if the old Level Cross facility was included with the buyout from Boston ventures, or if Richard and Linda kept it in the family.

Hey DF, in response to the entombed racecars, I got a few shovels and a big-ass flashlight.....grab a metal detector, and we're good to go.

              ;D.....Superchickens, here we come!
