Reading the news just now, sounds like he actually *meant* to land it there too. He was not in the traffic pattern and asked about an airport he had in sight. That guy is a badass. How did the wings not tear off??

I've read The Right Stuff and some other pilot themed books, but I gotta ask a professional.
With all the training you had and I'm assuming all the training this guy had, is fear allowed to enter your mind? Obviously this dude kept it together, but when you know it's gonna end shitty, is your training to mentally disassociate with thinking about the ending and just deal with exactly what's facing you second by second or what?
Horribly worded question. I hope you can decipher it.
at a whopping 300 hours, I'd be the opposite end of the spectrum from Keith;
but from reading the articles tonight, the guy made a conscious decision to put it in the drink, presumably because he couldn't make the airport in Teterboro (even though it was in visual range) - which means he had to find a place NOW -
Imagine all the other shit going on when you lose both engines on a twin engine aircraft: all kinds of things have to happen in the cockpit for a good outcome there.
I would like to see the ops manual chapter on that procedure!

The physiological reaction to stress is one of my fields of expertise actually....
So to answer your quesiton... here's the sequence of events as they transpired...
1. Birds enter field of view... ( get outta here you stupid freaking birds )
2. Ahhh Shit... that big one out front's gonna have a Bad day... ( might even be a bad Year )
3. ahhhh Man... did ya have to do it to that Engine... I hate landing single engine...
4. Damn it man.... both engines.... Lots of duukyyyy going on here
5. Recognize and perceive a threat against your body
6. Constrict all major muscle groups... Ass Stomach, legs, so on and so forth...
7. Take a Really deep breath and oxygenate the blood in the Longs...
8. Activate the adrenal Glands... and then PUMP that oxygenated blood into the supply lines that are constricted...
9. Massive flow of blood to the Brain... ( everything else is holding onto seat cushions and such )
10. Interesting truth.... When the blood flow hits the brain... anything ever stored in that piss ant dingy place ever associated with the threat your body perceives against it will be Absolutely avaliable and Clear as a bell... You know anything and EVERYTHING you ever learned... it's Crystal clear... Your focus is absolute and your output response is truly perfect...
If you never trained for this event or if your a pussy.... your mind comes up with Nothing and then you freeze... Your life flashes before your eyes right before your brain passes through your ass....
Seriously... I studied this and teach a class in it... the answer is... THINK and train about how you want to react to certain situations and Bingo... that's how you react... every time...
