"Al Quaeda" is nothing more than "People pissed at the USA" - no matter their gripe or group, they're "the bad guy" and going after them in this manner, means we're going to be "at war" forever.
Sorry, but there are always going to be haters, no matter who you are, or how awesome you are.
So then it becomes a question of "who benefits from this seemingly no-win situation?" Then the answer becomes a little more clear. Who makes money or has an interest in us being at war? The people landing and administering big contracts, have a lot to gain by us being at war - so they have a lot of interest in making us, the voting public, want to be at war all the time.
