  • What kind plates ya got......?

After reading a post by Matt King on his Nova and issues with getting it
licensed.........thought I'd see what others here do for plates
    on their ride.

If he were in Missouri, he'd have three choices:
Regular MO plates, safety inspection only
No driving restrictions.....this can be a pain as some inspectors
will hassle a guy with a nice street rod.

    Historic Plates
    Car 25 yrs old
Cost $28.75, one time fee....$15 extra for personalized
Mileage restriction-100 mile radius from address-1000 mile limit per year
Have to keep log of miles and have it with car.

    Year of Manufacture
Cars has to be 25 yrs old
Plate has to be same year as car
Submit photo of plate, plate number can't conflict with other
plate in use......cost $28.75 one time fee

I just applied for year of manufacture....buddy gave me a real
nice 1970 MO plate and am going to use it. I called DMV ahead of time
and they said the number wasn't in use, so I'm good to go.
This is the best deal going in our area. All driving limits are off, one
    time fee, no inspections.
One of our buddies got stop last year by a local and made him produce
    his driver's log.....which he didn't have.

If Matt was in Missouri he'd be cruising.

    So......what's other junkies doin here?

Antique/Classic Plates - - the registration lasts for five years and averages a little over $10 per year
However, I'm in the market for some real 55 plates and then I'll go with a sticker for the same price of registration.
(Note: we don't have to run front plates this way either)

I have a 54 AZ plate and the rare 55 aluminum tab for it....but haven't decided yet to spend the $$$ every year to run it.

Both of my cars still have their original 1971 issue plates, and I wouldn't trade them for anything. I did notice this year that the registration fee went up from $45 to $66, small price to pay.

                In Florida, we have four choices;

                Regular State Plate

                License Plates for the Cause
Specialty plates for 111 specific causes you can support.

                Antique Plates
Your vehicle must be at least 30 years old to qualify for antique plate status.

                Personalized License Plates
If you want to send a message that's all your own, you can apply for a personalized license plate. You can check online first to see if the plate you want is available. If it is, you fill out the application and submit it to your local county tax collector's office. The application will need to be reviewed and accepted to ensure that no obscene or objectionable words or phrases are being used.

We tried to get historical plates on the Fairlane wagon but they wouldnt let me.
They said it has a newer engine, and newer brakes on it!
I was like "THE CAR IS ALMOST 50 YEARS OLD!!!!! at some point its going to need a new engine and brakes!"
They really didnt care what I had to say

Wow, I'm shocked that they asked/looked. The only time AZ DMV looks at a car is if you are transferring title from out of state, they check the VIN.

Re: What kind plates ya got......?

Regular plates on my stuff. I might get a personalized plate on my Fairlane though.

The thing that sucks is the DMV determines how much the vehicle is worth when you register it and you have to pay tax on that amount. I've had some interesting conversations with the clerks at the registry office. I went to register my '69 Mustang and they said it was worth $19,000

Antique on the Malibu, Classic on the Monte. Its something like $90 for a permanent registration (never needs renewed, as long as I own the car).

I ran antique plates on Rusty in Texas, but now I have 1956 plates for California. The '66 Wagon has personalized plates that say CJUNKIE that Dad got me.

The Nova is still registered in Texas and has antique plates.

                              Collector plates here.

In colorado, collector plates only require one e-test at the time of registration, never again as long as you own the vehicle. $116 for 5 years.
