Re: CarJunkieTV.com Now Hiring! Gearhead Video Junkies Needed
Well, darn.
Dad told me about this thread and I just had to check it out and sadly I'm to young to move to CA.
*sniffles* I'm a technology geek.
I love taking video/pictures and I'd love to be involved in something like this but I'm afraid it's safe to say that Mama wouldn't let me move to CA even if it was legal for a 15 year old to leave home :P
But if you need more people to do that same type of thing in a few years then I'll have to track ya down.

I run sound systems and record as a hobby and for money on the side. I record bands, speaches, and do weddings. I've used everything up to $100,000 digital systems. I also currently work for a sound installation company (soundplanning.net) where we install systems into churches, schools, casinos (we just did MGM Grand), ect. Does that help? I do a lot of recording.
Leading manufacturer of microphones for live, touring and studio applications. Professional audio manufacturer of in-ear monitoring systems and sound isolating earphones.

That is one cool position....I do most everything there except for the Mac/OS finalcut pro stuff. I still muddle along with Premier and After Effects. I am not a Mac guy. Final Cut is out for the PC now, but I haven't purchased it yet.
I have a small production house called Nightlands. We make fun little shorts and stuff. Its mostly a hobby though because unless you live at home or work for someone else with money - you have none. Luckily I own most of my own digital video equipment. I even have some 16mm stuff!
I make my money as a edumacated and certificated computer geek (Network Technical Specialist they tell me). But that job you have listed there would be awesome! Too bad I am in canada and you would have to be able to prove that I have a skillset that you could not fill from the us for me to get a greencard. So, you might want to limit your search to the US first.
What about freelance stuff from some of us on the other coast and up north? It would give you more coverage of events and you could run it like freelance for a standard print mag.
You probably would want to have your own voiceover guy, and the usual final edit and titling to be done by your guys for continuity with the rest of the stuff you shoot.
What I currently don't understnad is why are you wanting to shoot in HD when standard broadcast quality video would still have to be seriously compressed for internet video? HD would have much higher initial picture quality but it would have to be compressed more and you end up at the resolution at the end either way. You are currently limited by bandwidth to the end user since there is no QOS on the internet.
The best initial quality footage is alway great to have, especially if you have ideas about DVD's in the future, but it would limit your freelancers if you go that way.

We want our archives to be prepared for the future.
If you lived in Mexico we could hire you, no problem. Canada? Big problem. Tried it before. Nightmare.

I know that pain. What most US companies do is open a tiny canadian subsiduary that is incorporated and fully owned by the US parent corp. Then they simply transfer the person to the "Head Office" citing they have "specialized knowledge of internal business practices". Costs around $500 to get the Provencial incorporation paperwork done.
I should have went for dual citizenship when I had the chance...
