I think I see a 70s buick century, top right. Chevelle did not have that grille.
the chevy after its second miscolored bed.. it is ok to be there int he pile. Could only guess how long it went.
the fwd stuff, it can go to hell gladly.
the dusters, if they ran long enough became poisonous. Even diehards here let go sometimes.Previously boxer3main

near the century, I see what looks like an old mopar. red fender
down on the left an old late 70s dodge pickup
the ford pickup and the chevy are long beds.... no loss thereHellinor- 2005 Mustang GT-Bolt ons, in need of a turbo
War Wagon- 1966 Bel Air Wagon-355 Crate motor, 700r4, flies pretty good for a brick...

While thinking about this it came to me..... When I was young a junkyard was just, JUNK. If a car wasn't crashed or rusted to oblivion it was repaired and kept in use. In the late 60s and 70s was when you started to hear "not worth fixing". Why? New cars were more affordable than ever thanks to competition from foreign car makers and repair and parts costs were locked in an upward spiral as dealers leaned more on "service" for profits. I remember a long debate with a yard manager over a '68 Camaro SS rear clip he refused to sell. He said all the cars there were from tragic highway incidents and to rebuild one might upset a victim's loved ones.Last edited by RockJustRock; April 2, 2014, 10:33 AM.My hobby is needing a hobby.

I really dont get why people junk cars when rust isnt an issue. You guys in the south west that junk em baffle me. I see a lot of Cutlass Cieras in that stack,my friend swears by them,he uses them to commute and runs them 250,000 miles rust and all,hes had at least 3. I see a Monte about 5 up from the duster (which dosent look rusty) . Terrible.

Antmne, reasons are varied as to why.. Price of scrap.. Yard was paying $50/ton for cars, and getting $190/ton crushed in the mid/late 80's.. More now.. Gas was a big reason.. I crushed HUNDREDS of 70-78 Impalas, Caprices, Montes, Electras.. All those cars..running, driving, need tuneups, batteries, tires..they may burn oil, they definitely burned gas.. I could not save them all.. Those I tried got rotted... Many just rolled over 100,000 miles..never had new shocks or an oil change.. I once got a lawnboy that looked nice.. Changed the plug and used it for almost 20 years.. It is utterly amazing what people scrap..it was too easy to build a pile at home.. Got a 51 chevy dump bed one ton for hauling off..needs a windshield and motor.. Got an 80 dualie crew cab with a 4 speed, needs motor and right rear fender.. for hauling off ...

when iron decides to keep one of those chains..kiss it goodbye.
I have even thrown a rod out of a subaru boxer..gentle little engine.
they attack the fronts of engines first, then it is like chasing a plague for several years, like the body was a sponge , 1 direction.."kill me".
