  • It's 'Taps" for my Camaro

    *sighs*

Was gonna be a pretty good day.....fired up the beast, gonna take the youngest boy to get a haircut.

Something told me to take a cursory look underneath.....noticed some nasty rust-through on the left lower control arm.

    That raised my curiosity.....

Further investigation revealed rust-through in the left-rear footwell...but that's not the worst.

Went to the right side, and for some reason, I grasped the right rear subframe rail where it joins into the rear floorpan.....wiggled like f'in Jell-O. The "rot' extends along the factory bodyseams...EXTENSIVE RUSTING/DECAY.......too far gone to try to grind/re-weld.

    Makes me SICK.

Guess it's time to find a cheap roller to transfer the driveline into......and for the record, I'll NEVER own another T-top car again.
    EVER.

I kept this thing off the road in the winter to try and prevent this kind of thing.....but the first winter I had it, it was a daily driver......drove it to the airport when doing snow removal at Fedex.....the super-corrosive deicers did their deed.

      damn, that sucks

my best bud had that happen to him...91 T-bird sport, his color combo was one of 20, iirc. shock mounts on the rear were toast, same with IRS mounts.

Sorry to hear that Chris, that car had alot of potential. It must be contagious....my son's '77 is going to suffer the same fate.

No facilities or $$ for that....otherwise, I would do it without hesitation.

I totally miss not having a garage....would've completely prevented this outcome.

                    Shit.

Better to find it now rather than when the car folded up like a wet towel when you hit something. It sucks hard. If you ca yank the motor now and drag the rest of it to the scrap yard for $$ do it! The start hunting for junk with blowed up engines in the spring. (second Gen!)

Yeah, I've been telling myself that.........not so much for myself as the thought of my kids being in it and something letting go.

I'm gonna keep it intact until I do find something else....no garage= no storage for the engine/trans, at least it's safe where it's at for the moment.

X2. I found out my frame rails were missing about 30 inches on both sides AFTER running my car 10 miles at Bonneville at over 125 mph.
