Tree'd me! The shot I found had WAY too many pixels.

But the point is - Detroit was once an amazing and vibrant city and there are still some amazing things there but much of it is sad and forlorn. I really hope that somehow it would come back to life but that's not likely. As the Silverdome shows, now the suburbs are crumbling, too.

That building is gorgeous. It would be criminal to knock it down for some POS ugly glass and steel tower.

Must be a milion rats living there to support that many. Unless the world's biggest cat lady is feeding them.

Strange to see the Silverdome with out its roof. attended a few events there. They cannot tear down the MC depot. it is a national historic building. IIRC trump wanted to make a casino out of it in the late 90s. Detroit said NO. I remember going in there as a kid with my dad. he worked for the railroad. It was cool. Several of the upper floors where never even finished. I also heard that they had the old hand crank elevators still in use into the 70s .

I hired on with Penn Central (Pennsylvania and New York Central RR) as a switchman in that building (Michigan Central RR) in October 1972 and it was great architecture. A bunch of covered tracks in back for passenger trains and the circus trains would park there when in town and walk the animals down Michigan Ave. to Cobo Hall. Not too far east of the building the train tunnel under the Detroit River took you to Windsor, Canada. I guess I haven't forgotten all of the 70's, I still remember my hire date and ID #.

If they give it to you you could not afford to own it

I bet the boilers are like several locomotives all in a row. I'd love to get a tour by someone who knows the building. Also a tour of the Packard plant. Both those installations are just a crying shame.
