  • Treadwright tires

Ron Ward told me about this place a while back. They are located in Houston and do retreads. The Durango needed tires and Treadwright was offering free shipping, so I decided to give them a whirl. They are pretty cheap at $109/ea. Factory size on Heavy-D is a 235-75/15. A 31-10.5/15 was the optional size for trucks with the fender flares. I decided to bump up to the 31-10.5 size because the 235's always looked so puny on this truck.

They sent 4 matching BFG casings and my first impression is they look pretty darn good. Never had a set of retreads so this ought to be interesting.

I've heard nothing but terrible things about treadwright... I do wish you luck, though.

I'm a little bummed.. went and looked at their site for a mudder in a 33-12.50x15. Denied. I'd try them for the Bronco!

obligatory Bronco picture - it wouldn't look right with 31x10.50's..

          Haha I bought 4.

The good part is, if they do turn out to have issues, 98% of the driving I do in this truck is back and forth to the office on city streets. It rarely gets driven at highway speeds.

that's what I was thinking - the Explorer probably does family trip duty these days. If there are problems, I go through Houston pretty often. Hope they do good for you!

I sure don't know anything about Treadwright, but I ran nothing but recaps (as we call them here) until was up into my 30's (a long time ago). Couldn't afford anything else. But those were all on VW bugs and other small cars. Don't know about big beefy tires on a heavy ride.

The only thing, if it gets hot outside, blistering hot, 100 degrees hot, the recap might come loose. Other than that, it's just like any other tire if you're tooling around town and not racing and going fast and stuff.

USAF Recaps aircraft tires all the time..over and over...I have no problem with them....Quality on recaps can be suspect from time to time...Let us know how they hold up...I need some tires for the beater Ram....

We often ran them in MI for snow tires - but the damn things melted away every Spring (Thanks, I'll be here all week).

But seriously, folks - they held up pretty well on passenger cars, some of which were pretty heavy.

So far so good. Had them mounted and balanced this morning. The sheet that comes with them specifea that they should be static balanced so that is what I had the guy's do. They seem to take more weight to balance than a regular tire, but that's no biggie. One tire did take more weight than the others, but I don't mind.

Took it for a drive down I40 at 7 mph and everything seems normal.

did you mean 70 mph? My Snapper does okay at 7mph and they aren't balanced at all.

when they said static they meant bubble, I hope you tipped the tire buster with a little more than just his life

I wasn't gonna go there. But if I did go there, I was gonna tell BBR if he ever gets over to Atlanta one day, I would severely recommend not going 7 mph on the Beltway.

BBR is in Amarillo, so I never know. It could be snowing and ice and 7mph would be plenty fast to dodge wrecks. As it turns out, it's nicer there today than it is here!

It used to be illegal to run recaps on steering axles........at least on semi tractors. Don't know about today, but I always thought if they weren't safe enough at speed for trucks, they might not be for families.......not being critical, just a thought.....
