And hmmm....I see they've assigned 9864 to a much faster car. Good, they needed to.Charter member of the Turd Nuggets

I can rely on the dash cam for a downtrack view, I can reach the plug hole for it in the dash. Unless you'd be glad and willing to be standing beside the car every time and start the GoPro and slam Red's passenger door as soon as Steve says GO.

Superman has a track app for road courses. You turn it on and it knows you're at a race track at it scores your lap times at the start/finish line and lateral G's etc. Cool stuff. I'm retired, I just don't realistically need a smart phone. I spend 99.2% of my life at home with the online computer always available. I could have a dozen smart phones if that's what I wanted, but I don't "need" one.
But it's hard for any man to say he doesn't "need" a truck. Sure it either sits there or you drive it around like a car, but on that day and hour when you need a truck, you gotta have one. Or borrow one or rent one. Smart phone, not so much if you're me.Charter member of the Turd Nuggets

Over on the General Discussion side I misremembered some of the details about Steve and the farm tractor.
I had to go find the video to remember it right. Steve was very happy about the tractor's speed but he wasn't dancing around waving his arms. What he did do was to point - at the big speed readout over there on the right and I didn't even know it was there. I was thinking he wanted me to pull off of the track and then he had to come tell me the tractor went 106 to beat the farm tractor record of 103. I think she (wasn't there a lady driving it?) went 108 the next day.
I'm glad I watched the video because it gave me a great reference. Red was going into 5th gear just about exactly at the 3/4 mile marker. I can keep that in mind while I'm seeing what he'll do with the smaller tires.

It's a 1"x1"x3" box with a magnetic base. It gives times to speed and distance (e.g. 0-60, 0-100, 1/4 mile, 1/2 mile , mile etc).

I moved the GoPro up to the top roll bar and turned it upside down and got it aligned and boy wow does that ever make a pretty picture. Up there I even more than can't reach it from the seat. Just sitting there without a single belt on I can twist around and reach back there with my left arm and holler OWW twice feeling for the power button on the other side of it (the button has no contour or texture) before I give up. If Bro Dave is around to start it a time or two that'll be great. I'll have all of the dash cam videos looking down the track and every run looks the same anyhow. The real drawback is the dash cam totally sucks for sound.
The Sony Bloggie rocks the sound, better than the picture (Hey Stude, remember the Sony Bloggie?). At the Ohio Mile I rubber banded the Bloggie to the rear view mirror facing forward since I don't need to use the mirror at land speed. That's a bugger too because of the way it ends up hanging there and where the rubber bands and the buttons are and the display screen is, I can't be altogether sure if I have it recording after I get it turned on.Charter member of the Turd Nuggets

It's called a Dragy; it downloads the data to the phone via Bluetooth, so the phone just has to be somewhere in the car. It also starts automatically when the vehicle moves from a standstill, so no button pushing needed.
By the way, which version of GoPro do you have? There are wireless controllers available for almost all generations from version 3, both official and clones - e.g.:

Hey Dan,
Question....It just dawned on me that I can pack Red like I was going to Daytona, a dress rehearsal of sorts. Floor jack, impact wrench, tools, air tank, spare wheel, jack stands, a pit collection. I might as well can put Red's track pads on at land speed for exercise and fun and giggles and loud squeals. Can I pile that stuff up on your rig while we're at the track? I think I'd like that better than just throwing it down on the ground somewhere and then going back at the end of the day to see if it's still there.
EDIT: After more thought, I'll bring all the stuff and let's see what it looks like when we get there. I saw a video from Steve where he said there will be be a staging area at the gate and we'll be escorted to the pits due to the congestion from all the airplanes that are now there. I'll bring a tarp to throw over all of my stuff wherever I end up having to put it and it'll be fine.Last edited by pdub; April 26, 2021, 04:13 AM.Charter member of the Turd Nuggets
