As with most everything on the MGB - the usual drum brake rules don't apply (rear brakes are drum on the B). I was showing my apprentice the details of drum brake assembly and held up the shoes to show him that the shorter lining goes toward the front - Oops, all 4 linings are the same length. The moral of the story is that there are always exceptions.
