Sounds like a bad connection or short inside the steering column. Careful in there. Those columns can be tricky.

if one is swollen closed, they probably all are... it would be cheap insurance to replace the other two.

good deal man, sometimes it amazes me how far people let there cars go far as maintenance, almost to the point of rolling deathtraps, and its not just the poor people, I'm talking people with money falling out of there pockets, taking their half running suv up to best buy to buy a big screen to watch some stupid sports on, but they squawk at 60 bucks for a tune up.

Looks like a decent base to start with.......305's won't set the world on fire, but they'll get ya where ya wanna go(and can surprise some unsuspecting souls...ask how I know...LMAO).

Amazing what some fresh parts, cleaner and elbow grease will reveal, eh? I'll be keeping an eye on this thread!

BTW, just bought my oldest son his graduation gift, a.....are ya ready.........1992 RS Camaro.

Do yourself and the doors a BIG favor:

Replace the window "rubbers".......I can roll down my windows on my Z, open the doors and stare at my shoes through the non-existant bottom of the doors.

Don't do synthetic on a high-mileage motor. It'll clean the motor out and plug an oil galley. (then you get to put a new motor in).
lifter noises can be (sometimes) inexpensively fixed by going to a higher weight oil.
                              Nice project btw.
