Wow, is that yours? Or its twin? Interesting to turn up that info, either way.

A little progress....yesterday, I got a driveshaft. Had to spend some time cleaning up the rusty yoke, but I got it to slide pretty much all the way onto the trans output shaft. I also pulled the tailhousing off the overdrive on the on "new" transmission, to clean things up and inspect. New seal, that I had laying around for a later model Chevy, fit just fine. Made a new gasket.

The "new" clutch disk showed up in the mail this afternoon, so after dinner I put the engine back in. The trans doesn't fit quite right...the governor hits the floor, the solenoid will have to get a big dent in the floor to clear, and the speedo cable will have to go through the floor! big changes between the 1955ish trans and the 1959 car. I need to get the new driveshaft cut about 5" shorter, also. At least it's plenty long.

I have it all wired up, need to dump some gas in the carb, then I can see if it will fire up. Don't need no cooling system or driveshaft for that, right?

I thought you got a new water pump? And that carb ought to really flow!!
                  Escaped on a technicality.

I ordered the wrong water pump, sent it back, the right one should show up today...but meantime, I put the old one on for fun. I thought it was in better shape, but it spins really freely, meaning the seal is likely shot. I may try the old one and see how it does, and keep the new one as a spare. I don't know, either way it's just work.

I never realized the Y Block had a rear distributor., Seems wrong on a Ford on a fundamental level. Growing up my folks had a '58 Edsel I learned to wrench on. Thing was a beast.

One neat thing about the y block is that the distributor is at quite an angle, and the oil pump, directly below it, is outside the block (like it was an afterthought). so you can use either a front or rear sump pan easily.

poured a little gas in the carb, and fired it up. Needs a carb kit, fuel drips out the accelerator pump housing.

that's what I was thinking too - the build is "as usual" Squirrel perfect for the intended job, and the perfect car for that job. I'm envious of his ability to stay on target.
