Sucks man - that's two of us who've had unpleasant pan pulling surprises. Bummer. Sometimes you got to know when to cut bait.

not pasture, another home. The reason isn't so much that I can't fix it, would only cost about $600, but at some point I have to ask myself, what do I want? I have the GTO (as much as it's a problem it might as well be a hobby car), the 50 Sedanet, the Spider and the Corvette. I don't need another hobby car? FWIW, I'd sell it really cheaply to a kid who wants his first car.
why they left it out? I dunno - but as they put a plugged pick up tube in the motor (it's been rebuilt), and the rope seal is a bear to install - perhaps they got a case of the f*** its?Last edited by SuperBuickGuy; June 11, 2012, 08:37 AM.

That's really weird! Can't even begin to think why someone could/would leave the rear seal out? Sure hate to see the '70 go out to pasture. But I do understand the frustration, and the fact it takes funds from other projects.

Whoa......what's the deal with the screen being plugged?
Brief history of the engine as you know it....I'm thinking it was one of the runners you traded something for? It looks too grungy inside to be one you built.....looks more like one of my JY refugees....

Awwwww, cmon man. You're building a friggin Fiat w/Caddy motor in it & yer gonna give up on this cuz of some bad bearings?
Toss a junkyard 350 in it at least. Hell you could toss an Olds or Poncho mill in it. Put a Caddy 500 in it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't give up that easy SUPERBUICKGUY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I'm just done. I finally pulled the motor from the Skylark to fix the leak and resolve the low oil pressure problem....
I cut the screen out - you can't see light through it... so I pulled the last main to get oil and found 2 problems
note the nice copper color? Also note how there's no rear main seal? It didn't leak before because it didn't have enough oil pressure, when it got enough oil pressure, it leaked.... ah well, at least I know
The shell is going to be sold. I'm not spending a dime on this Buick with the 50 waiting in the wings. I may just part the thing.... if it sells for $3500 I'll sell as is, any less... it has a 12 bolt with a locker and upgraded axle shafts, plus disk brakes... I can sell just that for enough coin to make the rest part out go quite well...
Then my bet will be either one or two things will happen. 1) some kid will come along and buy the shell and put it back together his way.... or 2) It'll be put out to pasture and I'll put it together someday....

it's funny that this is exactly the car I would have built in high school - even with the solid centerlines.... I really need to get the front back down
