    a 2001 Park Avenue

why did i buy a park avenue you are proably asking your self. answer it was $250..... ok not real helpful

well it has 130k fully loaded but why is it only $250 and why did you buy it? the engine is "bad" apparently i have not been able to figure out how as of yet guy said it needed "engine bearings"

ok but why did you buy a 01 buick that should be sitting out fornt of the local bingo hall and the paint is starting to be evicted form the aluminum hood.

ok ok ok ok. the engine.

under the hood of this bad boy lays the GM 3800 sereis II supercharged. yes this is a park avenue Ultra. it's a 4500lbs boat with 240hp.

do not worry i still have the 75 Grand AM i just did not want to drive the aurora in the winter and hoping this will make a good winter beater in it's place

great deal, I have yet to give in to your history of 12 in one lifetime.
Don't tell us the reasons they all came and went so quickly.

the green 97 GT sedan was totaled out at work.
the silver 99 GTP coupe was a POS and refused to put any work into it (was only suppose to be a temp car for a month... 2 years later) so when the intake gasket went i just junked it.
the black 2000 GTX sedan literally folded in half when i opened up all 4 doors as the stealership fiberglassed over the rust.
2000 daytona was a parts car,
the 2002 SE sedan lived hard and died young do to my brother.
the purple 2002 40th annivrsury coupe was t-boned,
black 01 GT coupe was a beater tower rotted out junked it,
green 98 GT coupe parts car, white
01 GT coupe my race car built the engine caught fire sold it bought it back sold it again for the grand am

      03 Silhouete GLS AWD repo'd,
      08 uplander extended still have

96 Cutlass supreme. the rear trailing arms mounting location rusted away car had to be scrapped ran like a top though

After my inlaws started buying nothing but new cars after their retirement ,they switched from caprices to front drive buicks . Of the buicks my favorite was a Park Ave that looked like that . Its the only one I actually liked . Supercharger ought to make it interesting !

I'll bet SOMEONE makes a crate motor for that. Might be cheaper and for sure will be quicker. My Bro and wife have a Pontiac with that driveline and it runs great with way more miles than that. Or there might not be much wrong with it - I'll be curious to see what you find is REALLY wrong.

I'd bet the "engine bearings" noise is just the supercharger drive rattling.

i have suspected the S/C coupler. another possibility is the flexplate. they are known to crack on this year range as the S/C ones accidentally got fly wheels weighted for the N/A engine. this causes them to crack some times turning them into a quick disconnect 2 piece unit LOL

the engine is perfectly fine. no really nothing is wrong with the engine. it needs an A/C compressor bearing. as the noise stops when the a/c compressor engages. and there is a slight vacuum leak whistle from under the hood.

it also needs rear struts like REAL bad. every time i hit a bump the ass would try to go into a ditch then bounce up and down for about an hour. there is a bad wheel bearing some where as the ABS, traction, and break light are all on

oh and the fuel sender is junk have to use the DIC to figure out how much gallons have been used or the trip odo

all in all a score for a $250

                  Great Score indeed.

Mom had a '88 Lesabre with the 3800 (total granny-mobile with the partial vinyl top in matching blue) loved that car, it would flat-out get it while knocking down 28mpg.

Mom also had a '98 Park Avenue with the 3800. Much more cushy and was still fairly peppy even though it was lugging around at least 1000# more than the Lesabre.

Your supercharged version is going to be a blast.

so now that i have done some pokery here is every thing that needs attention in no particular order other then how they pop into my head

rear shocks - good news the compressor works bad news that means more expensive shocks. or retrofit for cheaper shocks but will loose the old man kidney saving ride

front driver speaker is blown - this is more annoying then i would like to admit

gas gauge does not work - fuel used does work so does the trip odo

                      battery is junk

windows will only lower 1" - may be do to battery

doors will not lock or unlock - may be do to battery

driver seat will not raise or lower - i am a a very tall midget not really an issue where it seems to be stuck at also may be related to battery

a wheel bearing/ sensor is bad.... some where may also be wiring

car smells of old people and bingo - this is extra bad sense i work at a casino where there are old people and bingo mostly at the same time

this last one is not an issue but the HVAC is the most weirdest laidout and designed aspects of this car there is zero option to turn the A/C off it is always in a semi-on state where the car will choose when it thinks it should kick on the compressor. this annoys m to no end as there are times i just want vents on with out the A/C running and there is literally no way to do that in this car. it;s just a weird system as my aurora same year same chassis has an option to override the A/C on or off it;s just weird.

                      i blame old people

Put a switch inline with the AC compressor so can de-power it.

Sounds like a heck of a score. Those were good cars minus the infamous intake gasket problem.

yeah the removal of dexcool will be the first thing i do. car already has the revised aluminum intake gaskets and aluminum coolant elbows. so it was taken care of

I was trying to remember the main 3800 issue. Intake gaskets was it.

Isn't Milner currently sporting one of these as a daily driver? I distinctly remember him expressing dislike of the climate control part of his luxury cruiser, and he had a plan of some sort to do away with the complex parts. Maybe a search of his posts or a PM?
