    • Actually, the "before" gaps aren't too bad for an old 'Vette.

yes but I've been to SEMA and made my unobtainable goals more unobtainable.... my mantra, recently, has become it's not a SEMA car it's a race car. who knew of this danger? "go to SEMA" they said "you'll see nice cars" they said... what they forgot to say is "you'll never finish another car again"... I do a lot of talking to them.

and I think I'm onto something. Ever since Brian Lohnes, Chad Reynolds and Bryan McSquatch went to SEMA - they've finished nothing, hell, I think Lohnes only drives rentals now.... .

        • I caught the same disease at the Detroit Autorama, home of the Riddler Cup. Luckily I'm too lazy to let it mess up my level of what's acceptable. Now I just WISH my stuff looked like that.

            • I may find more than a little joy in making things the best I can.... the other name of this car is Covette19 - and as that name implies, I have time so why not use it?

              • Tonight... more of the same
                filler is dry

                and shaped a bit

                same story door 2

                more gaps

this time, epoxy is the right material. Since I'm close on the shape, I want the strength of the epoxy on these edges

so here's today's gem for those who follow. Epoxy is mixed 2:1 and this is 2:1 then adding the thickener.

If you take a paint cap, it's about 1 cup or material.
1 cup just barely thickens the 2:1
                2 cups is thin honey
                3 cups is thick honey
                4 cups is mayonnaise
5 cups is creamy peanut butter

it only took a 2:1 plus 5 cups to do the following (volume was about 2 cups wet)... keep in mind this filler is light and fluffy so it really isn't a lot of solid volume
                both door jambs

                the fender gap issues

So with that drying, I went onto my Buick

                thanks for watching

                • so the epoxy is dry but very green...

once it does dry, it looks like there is enough to fix the edges

                  same with trailing edge

and onto my other project while that dries

                                epoxy the jams

                                before

after 2 hours of cleanup, grinding, sanding

                                and epoxy

time to glue in the shelf

whoever owns this car later.... I told you to read the blog.... you didn't, and yes, it's glued because I hate rattles and I don't care that you're now trying to get the frame off

glued in place, and it will even be glued more before it's done.... did I ever mention I really want to have one of my cars on one of those reality shows where they bought it and now are complaining about that cold breeze blowing up their skirt and chilling what used to be their manly bits?

if I didn't, now you know....
