Dunno what the benefit would be putting those heads on my 454. Has a Performer intake, doubt it has a cam..

they make good torque at the expense of horsepower.

I like the more nuanced approach of sucking their doors off as I go by.
        i agree--however, even with a flat tappet hydro i shift my 461 at 6400rpm+,
and it wants more--needs better rods before i do that though.
it pulls through the entire RPM range so fast its scary, seems like
the shift light comes on every 2 seconds or so. truly nasty.
theres a reason the stroker 383 small block and 496 big block
        are so popular--they work.

that being said, nothing feels like amping a 427 (+.060 to 440) to 7800rpm+
        every gear.........

        • While I understand that objects in motion tend to stay in motion, it takes more energy to get those objects into motion (e.g. a CR500 v. CR250).... why people think cubic inches is a male-enhancement device is something that continues to puzzle me.

                        ouch... $$$ !!!!!!!
not worried about valve float at 7000rpm+ with those heavy rollers?
personally, unless i already had the lifters, shorter pushrods, etc..
required for that cam, i would run this guy instead...

either one will pull 7000rpm even as a flat tappet hydro.
the only drawback is needing zinc additive, and the fun
break-in procedure. but hey, your car your money--
and anyone with even half a brain KNOWS no matter
what you decide to run, that vette is going
                        to be deadly scary quick....

                        • I like the suggestion - and plan on calling the various suppliers on Monday for their suggestion (those are $809 for what you see from other suppliers). I'm not ever, willingly, doing a flat tappet cam. Plus, those lifters aren't what you get - the picture is illustrative, the solid lifters look nothing like those.... but you are right, there will be valve train lightening (titanium retainers, and beehive springs)... in other news, photobucket seems to work again

Got my OBX side pipes friday

                          they look really nice
except for the dent - that apparently they put there for clearance .... if you squint just right at their pictures, you can see the bludgeoned part on fleabay.

I'm not leaving it like that - it offends me on several levels, but they are 304 stainless, 16 ga, and have mufflers inside for $804 delivered... I couldn't build what I bought for the price (and they look well designed) and seem to have equal length tubes (which the Hookers do not have).

So the tl;dr is overall I like the pipes but am disappointed by the dent.... but not enough to ratchet up the complaint.

                              • polished stainless (304, mirror finish). I may move it back to a #4 finish (grained) because I think it looks better.
