and hopefully it'll keep the shiny bits inside.... crossing fingers (would cross toes but it's devilishly hard to work a clutch with crossed toes)

      • Finally back on this

        pull the shifter off

        fluid looks perfect!

wonder what I'll do with trans next...

        and hooks

basically they attach to the prior spring mounts....

wrapped the hook with stainless rod - basically it adds a lot of strength

bit of cleanup tomorrow and paint them "please hook here not on a headlight red"

        • cleaned up

          now with paint

          installed

          rear matching

          for sale ;)

first problem... the cross member is simply in the way

I could have got the trans in/out without removing it but that would be a real problem on race day since it'd mean moving the motor

          now it's not a problem

first issue... a bit of massaging and it's fine now

time to set angles before building the cross member

a bit of envisioning going on

it does fit really well, I have no trouble cutting the floor - which solves the issue of whether or not I need a special shifter

          • So the only difference with the "hole" is that it now falls in the middle of the tunnel, it's in the same plane front to back?

short answer - probably, but there's 2 locations where the shifter can locate... my biggest fear was altitude - that the shifter mechanism remained under the tunnel - and it appears that is the case.... tomorrow... there will be more answers.

                    • how much trimming?

                      round 2

                      win

okay - explanation time. The Corvette version of this isn't available yet - they copied what they did on the T5 and TKO - which is mill a slot in the tailshaft, then move the entire shifter over. I wanted it now, so I figured I'd have to do some adapting.... the solution is a different, shorter shifter with a 3" offset. It requires the cutting I did - but will (hopefully) allow me to use my stock console.

Took the driveshaft to get shortened today - 4" is the number. granted, it should have been only 3" - I should have given myself a bit more slip the last time around (live and learn)... no harm, no foul but it was a pain to get out. Might have it back tomorrow - Friday is more likely....

Waiting on the speedo cable for the Dakota Digital (how simple was that? just replace the plug....

Tomorrow night I should finish the mount - been playing with my plasma table... so it's taken hours where had I just done it by hand - it'd be done. That said, once I get the table working.... it will be a game changer for me.

                              • time to finish up the cross member

                                make the e-brake work

                                weld some braces too

                                then paint

                                and done

then little stuff like - will an 18" wheel fit on the back - yes

and rubbing issue.... such a temptation to just grind that 1/4" off

                                then fix the clutch linkage

the car was a 4 speed car and those rods were likely there since new.... the pivot was half worn through - so it was time to make it a bit better
