The Gala was a success. Now I've been asked if I can get something together for a parade on 1 July, as the vehicle for the Grand Marshal of the parade. So now it's time for a new water pump, thermostat, radiator cap, and sorting out why it's turned into a 3 cylinder wonder. Work will also continue at a slower pace on the 1943 Willys.

One of these things is not like the other. #1 intake pushrod was just hanging out. Not really sure why, but we put it back, set the lash, and ran it. Seems fine, we'll keep an eye on in.
We've got a new thermostat and cap, we're going to back flush the radiator, run vinegar through everything, and see what it does.2 Photos

Well that's not a Jeep...
Our next victim is a Dodge M37, closely related to both the WC series pickup and the Dodge Power Wagon. This isn't in our shop area- it's across base and we only have limited access to this facility. Project number one was to get it trailerable. The brakes are shot, and the wheel cylinders are all stuck. Our first attempt at moving it failed, and getting it back in the garage required my Jeep pushing and a chain come along pulling to get it where it needed to go. We attacked it yesterday and backed the brake adjusters all the way off, and now it sort of rolls, but will be a bear to move to our shop.
This one is particularly neat because of the PTO winch mounted on the front bumper- not a normal attachment for the M37 pickup style truck. Power comes from a 230 ci Flathead six, and runs through a 4 speed non-synchro trans. The target for this one is brakes rebuilt and low speed driveable by mid-August.
The M151A2 is now running cool, actually staying below 160. It starts, runs, idles, and runs great- I'm calling it fully parade ready, and we try once a week to let it get up to temp and run up the road to keep it that way. We also are doing parade crawl practices to make sure that it stay cool at 2 mph on a 95 degree day.
Also, there is a sneak preview of project number 4- the Dodge WC16 WW2 vintage command car. Basically, a giant Jeep on a 4x4 dodge pickup chassis, with what look like beadlock wheels.
