  • 64 SS Impala

Some may know some may not. Dad and I bought this car last July and it's been a heck of a car. It had it's problems but I have just about got them all worked out and been able to enjoy it as I worked on it. I bought new wheels and tires for it first to get the look I wanted. Then I started on it to get it driving right with new 506 power steering box. Took the assist out. Man what a difference that was! Reworked the brakes all the way around and have it stopping good now. Power disc up front with new rear brake and wheel cylinders in rear. New dual exhaust also. I then worked on the lights and wiring. it still has some problems but it's much better than it was.
I also redid the AC system. The hoses are all new along with o rings and oil for 134-A. We drove the car yesterday a little over 150 miles and it ran great and ran cool. It was 90* outside and humid but we stayed nice and cool at 38* on med fan setting. The car has a long ways to go before it's done but it sure has come a long way in less than a year.
I also added LED tail lights to it. New emblems all around it. New aluminum radiator with over flow. I also installed all new shocks with new center cap emblems.
I took it Friday morning had it detailed and then drove it Saturday a little over 150 miles for our cruise in to NC. While in NC.
I traded a auto tilt column this weekend for a tilt column for the center console with the tach cutout already done. I plan on a 5000 RPM tach install when I pull the steering out and a upgrade under dash wiring.

Cars sure were more interesting back then. I had the same floor shifter in my '65 Impala convert (loved that car) so it has a soft spot in my heart. Sadly, it was hooked up to a 283/Powerglide but the car was so pretty I didn't care.

Mine has the 350 in it now hooked to the power glide. I have the matching number 283 also though and the wheels, tires and hub caps for it. Some day I hope it will have a supercharged LS and over drive in it.

I started working on the trunk also. I wire bushed it good and cleaned with mineral spirits and then coated it with Dupli-color bed armor. I have 2 coats on so far. 3 coat will go on this afternoon I hope. I'll do the upper part in a few days after this half is dry good. Then after both halfs are done I'll splatter paint it back like it should be.

Well I started cleaning up the tilt column I got for it also today while waiting on the bed coating to dry. I got it all took a part cleaned and preped for primer & paint.
I'll be adding a factory style 5000 RPM tach also to the dash. The dash will come out when I drop the column to install the new one. I need to get it out and clean it up get the clock working and cut the dash for the tach. The whole you see in the column is so it want hit the tach once it's installed.
