  • so nothing going on again-- at the risk of sounding political, the cost of gas, food, rent, utlilities, etc has gone up so much that i
literally cannot afford to buy any of the partsi need-steel axles, shifter & linkage, radiator, driveshaft, etc etc etc....
oh well hopefully better times ahead for all of us.

You need to be made aware that we REALLY avoid politics (and religion) on here - and your comment has veered into that territory.

        Glad you have!
I was hoping the "Moderator" would have jumped in.

I was thinking they are On The Fringe with their Opening Post, Nudist Car Show Weekends.
There's OTHER SITES to Shop for those People that are Interested in that.

I wonder if Steve has seen this yet - or if he thinks I've handled it already.

BTW - nudist car show weekends sound FINE to me! Well, depending on who is nude......

                • well finally things are starting to look a little less dire. faced with the prospect of dumping this car for thousands less than
i have put in and wasting all that labor as well, paz suggested just moving forward as if things were normal. aaaaand
she started that by ordering me the 2 USA standard gear steel axles we needed from amazon, as she caught them on the
31st at just $109 each. no studs, but i already did all new bearings end to end in the 12 bolt as well as a super brute
(which may get sold as i scored a lunchbox locker....lockrite i think? new in box for $100.) and a new zoom 4.10 gearset.

im sure she can rustle up a set of studs at work (oriellys) for a few dollars on her employee discount. so plans are when i
get paroled from indentured servitude at moms in maui, pull stock axles (have to anyway to install backing plates for brakes)
and reassemble with the new aftermarket axles. need a girdle cover and main cap stud kit next as im prety sure the 461" is
going to push +500hp/+500ftlb and with a 4spd and clutch thats enough to brutalize almost anything short of a 14 bolt like
i swapped in the blazer...... and even then id put steel axles in it, lol....

hopefully i get to go home soon, as ive already been here over a month while mom visits the king & his demon spawn
(my younger brother and his daughter) in vegas. his daughter is 9, what a coincidence ive had to spend the last 9 christmases
and new years away from home to be here. yay.

                  anyway, carry on..........

I'd so rather be in Hawaii then Vegas. But to each their own.

there are 2 makers (maybe 3?) of those lockers, yukon gear makes one (Spartan), and whoever came up with LocRite. It's what is in the FJ40 (some day airlockers but the current works so well that it's hard to change).

                      • so brother stevie rolled by sunday, and we mad scientist fixed the header issue-- 2 spare sets of "u weld it" header flanges,
3 gaskets, and 2.5" studs. pushed headers out far enough to clear body mount with collector. YAY. is it "clean"? who cares.
it worked, hah hah. im sure i should add a hangar close to the collector when i get headpipes on it. those studs must be
stressing. but for now ill take a win any way i can get it! both sides are all good now.
thanks stephen--couldnt have done it without ya--again. seems to be a common theme, lol....

Ugly but effective. And ya, I'd support that.

More importantly, are you and the fam OK? Sounds like TOO MUCH rain is hitting the islands according to our morning news.

all good here aside from a LOT of rain and some minor flooding in the streets
but thank goodness nothing at our place. thanks for worrying about us.

"ugly but effective". hey, sounds like a theme for my entire life, hah hah hah,,,,

                            • for those wondering why i didnt just cut/move collector or tubes..... the headers were coated.
didnt want to moogelate the coating with cutting grinding and welding. we are "supposed" to
install backing plates. brakes and steel axles in the 55 tomorrow--but i moved a piano on my trailer
today, and the new house it went to had 3 steps up and 5 steps down to get it where it had to go
so depends if i can get out of bed tomorrow!
