Nice going Admirall, I found a 2011 Crown Victoria LX for sale. I wasn't aware that any LX models were ever made in 2011 - is this real?

Could very well be, Only way to tell is the VIN code. P71 / P7B would be the "Police Interceptor" P74 / P7E would be the LX or civillian packages.

Listing is gone so I can't verify via the link.

Last night I started getting cylinder #5 misfire engine codes. Pulled the coil, there is a crap ton of coolant in the well. Our homeschooling group's auto upkeep class lab is scheduled for Saturday. Guess the kids get to swap an intake manifold on Saturday morning.

They are a good group of kids. They listen well and take direction. Last lab weekend of the semester.

Seriously, I've always hoped to get a young person who wanted to hang around and learn stuff from the old fella (the way I'd have killed to do as a kid) but never found anyone. Guessing the stars just never aligned for that.

Lab today went very well. Had 4 students swapping the intake manifold and it took only about 1.5 hours to do so. I got them started by pulling the wiper cowl and draining the radiator. After that it was all them.

Wow! I think it took me 3 weeks to replace the one on my towncar. In my defense I did replace the valve cover gasket while I was there. Way to have a bunch of kids make me feel like a sloth.

What intake did you replace it with?

                        I wanted this one https://www.amazon.com/Ford-Racing-M...s%2C277&sr=8-3

But I needed it for Saturday, and this happened Wednesday night. Amaz, on was saying they wouldn't get it to me until the 12th. So I looked at Summit and Jeg's. They were better, but saying they wouldn't get it to me until Tuesday the 9th.

Then I had a moment of clarity. This should be a service part stocked at any Ford dealership. So I went to Tasca and looked for the manifold there. They had it, and it was about the same price as a Dorman. Great! Now for the punchline. They wanted $60 for ground shipping, or $180 for 2 day air.

                        I laughed.

They did give me a part number though, 1W7Z-9424-AB

This I ordered through parts.ford.com so I could pick it up from the parts counter at my local dealer. Ended up being a little more, but I got it on Friday with no issues. This is the same intake the Ford Racing puts out.

I got the Ford racing one, I am 99.9% sure it the same as the one that came on the Lincoln but with out a layer of insolation. My opinion is the insolation is for sounds deading. Normal driving I can't tell a difference, at WOT it might make a little more engine sounds.

Suffered my first plug ejection form any mod motor I have driven. It is at the mechanic's now because I have neither the time or the stones to drill into my head for a timesert repair.

I didn't think these motors had that probably,. O don't think I would mind the drilling part, getting the chips out might bother me. I guess when it's someone elses you might not have to worry about it.

You grease up the drill and tap - that'll catch pretty much all the chips. Get out the borescope and check that all is OK. You can DO this!
