  • 1949 Ford Vanette

Just got it. Trying to get the "lack" of title issue resolved, then on to bigger and better things.

Making a camper out of it?

Sounds like a cool project, wherever it ends up going.

Trying to think up the ideal drivetrain. Maybe a 427 FE and a top loader w/long enough handle to be driveable? Or a C6?

That is a sweet looking van. Sounds like it's going to the dark side with GM parts.

I agree, Fords need Fords, but mostly they need saved. I'll follow this one, looks neat!

If it is a rolling chassis then it should make a good body parts bench for moving stuff around in the shop

Isn't a 2500 hd what Rutledge Wood has under his box rod? 1949 bread truck iirc...

First of all, sorry to all you "Purists", but I am looking at putting in a 6.2LS. I found a great deal on a '03 2500HD frame for $100 this weekend and pulled the plug.

Yep. Going to be a place for the Mrs. and I to chill when we need to take a break at all the shows and Power Tours we will hopefully be attending after we retire in May!

I've gone back and watched episodes of Iron Resurrection and Texas Metal where the built up "vans". I will have to go back and check out Rutledge's build. Thanks.

Whatever you use will be perfectly A-OK!
Just do not use a Divco powerplant called a Hercules!

Rut's has a 2500 chassis with the center droop removed from the original frame and later installed full air ride so it can nearly lay rockers... here's a link to the original build:

Just been pulling "stuff" off it for now. Nothing too exciting. Hope to really hit it after I retire in May (and after the Power Tour in June).
