bearings are expensive for old engines, so I only replace them if needed. Not needed here.

Makes sense. Forgot how $$ 37 Buick straight 8's were...

spending 300-400 bucks for bearing inserts to replace good ones is kind of silly.

I got a new piston and rings (one piston's worth) from the Hudson guy. I asked for .030 over, got .040 over. The hole is .040 at the top, and .030 at the bottom, so it looks like I'm going to get to try to hone it so it's sort of straight. I ordered a rigid hone, we'll see how far I get.

And the other holes that are .020 and the rings are worn out...I also bought a set of .030 rings for a Caddy, that I will get to file so they fit the .020 holes, and then figure out what to do about oil rings, as the new ring set is for 3 ring pistons, not 4 ring pistons. But since it's for a V8 instead of a 6, and the #5 piston and rings looked almost new, I can probably only have to recycle a few 2nd oil rings. It'll be a kluge, but it might work ok for several thousand miles. It needs to be bored .060 and have a lot of money spent on it. I'll save that fun for the next owner.

So far the #fabuloushudsonhornet has been doing fine...won the rally, and it's almost home. I do have to adjust the clutch this morning, though. And go shopping for a few more parts.

SO good to see you and the Hudson in Wendover! Folks - Jim and the Hudson stopped n Wendover for the car show at the Wendover Nugget that happens along with Speed Week. The car is REALLY worth restoring. Was the potential new owner as interested as you hoped he'd be?

I still need to talk to him more, meantime I'm fixing a few more little things on the car.
