We are pretty happy with what we found so far and plan to use our carpet/upholstery cleaner to see how clean we can get everything. We hope to get it good enough for a couple of years while we save up for a new interior. We also ordered a carb kit and a bunch of tune up stuff that should get here in the next week.

Thanks Guys. I worked on getting the factory style battery in her over the weekend. The original battery in these sits on the frame between the firewall and the passenger wheel well. The battery is about 19.25" x 4.25" x 9" and is used in tractors. Original:

The factory location on these leads a lot of owners to put the battery behind the grill and use some longer cables. Ours had this setup.

We found the original negative cable behind the battery. Got new cables from RockAuto. Old (the blue one was the one in use and was bolted to the alternator) and new negative:

The positive cable was in tough shape. This section went through a retaining loop in the battery box:

The old tray fought a bit coming out, but we were able to get all 4 holes to take bolts. Here is the new tray next to whats left of the old:

Yer cheatin'! I always make stuff like that and what I made doesn't quite fit so I have to remake it 5-6 times and then it's too small and wobbly. THEN you find the right thing and order it. What I'm saying is that you left out a step or six. Yours may be the only one in captivity with the OEM style battery other than some restoration somewhere..

The fact that I could order up a battery tray assembly tells me there are at least a few out there who want to keep the original location. I heard a little chatter out there on the interweb about putting 2 smaller batteries in the original location but never saw any pictures. This one will be like the mustang in that we want to keep it original.

I wonder if they adapted Dyna Batts to them. But I agree that keeping it pretty much stock (other than points) is a great idea. It IS interesting that the battery tray is available.

From what I'm seeing, that's 12 volt original!?... as for the 2 smaller batteries, you can put 2 of these optimas in series for a 12 volt total:https://www.optimabatteries.com/en-u...CABEgLqR_D_BwE

It's always been 12 volt. Not sure when the change happened.

IIRC, 1955 was the first year for Buick to go 12V though I'm not positive. Just what sticks in my mind (I didn't Google it)

You need to put LS's in both of them!

That way you could share parts between all you stuff.
